Talk:Phir Patton Ki Panjeb Baji (फिर पत्तों की पांजेब बजी)
This book, Patto for short, is one of three Hindi books arising from the World Tour. The other two are Koplen Phir Phoot Aayeen (कोंपलें फिर फूट आईं) and Phir Amrit Ki Bund Padi (फिर अमृत की बूंद पड़ी). All three titles have the word "Phir," meaning among other things, "again," a small but potentially significant element linking them all thematically. And all were put out by "Rajanisadhama Prakasana," a publisher likely based in Pune and operating only during the Ranch and World Tour times.
Diving deeper into obscurity . . . Inspired by the e-book version of Amrit found at Osho World -- see Amrit discussion -- i looked into their e-book version of Patto. As with Amrit, there were some dates and places embedded in it, mostly seemingly coming at the end of chapters, though such info in Patto was more chaotic. As with Amrit, there was no real spacing, highlighting, different fonts, chapter titles or numbers etc to make the info stand out, with one exception noted below, and info for some chapters was just plain missing. Still, there are a few pieces of the puzzle, so fwiw, date and place info was found as indicated below. Dates in Amrit were rendered consistently using Western numerals and so were easy to spot, even using scroll-and-scan rather than <ctrl F>, which is mysteriously unavailable in these e-books. Whatever. Here, things were harder.
- Oct 27, 1986, Sumila, Juhu, Bombay, found on p 17 of 168 (as 27 अक्टूबर 1986)
- Dec 5, 1985, Kullu Manali, found on p 74, (as ५ दिसंबर १९८५), followed in the next line by ६ (6), apparently the number of the next chapter, and a few words, ostensibly the chapter title.
- Dec 8, 1985, Kullu Manali, found on p 86 (as ८ दिसम्बर, no year), followed by another ६ (6), this time beginning a section in a new solider, more professional font with paragraph indents, at the end of which (p 94) is a note that this is ओशो (Osho) फिर पत्तो की पांजेबा बजी, प्रवचन (discourse) 6, संस्करण (edition) 1987, here in Western numerals but without a date. This was followed, in the old thinner font, by a ७ (7) and an ostensible chap title.
- Dec 24, 1985, Kullu Manali, found on p 117 (as २४ दिसंबर १९८५), followed by ८ (8)
- Dec 26, 1985, Kullu Manali, found on p 131 (as २६ दिसंबर १९८५), followed by ९ (9)
- Dec 27, 1985, Kullu Manali, found on p 145 (as २७ दिसंबर १९८५), followed by १० (10)
- Dec 28, 1985, Kullu Manali, found on p 157 (as २८ दिसंबर १९८५), this time not followed by any number, and with no date at the end.
This still leaves a lot of holes but another piece of almost-info does a lot to fill the holes. "Doc X" gives the dates for Patto as Oct 27 and Dec 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 24, 26, 27, 28 and 30. The catch is they are all in 1986 and in Mumbai. Still, allowing that the year and Mumbai might be wrong, the dates are otherwise a stunning match and fill the holes well. One problem that's easily solved is the two chap 6's. Looking at their titles, they are duplicates, so taking away the second one in the new font, it becomes clear that Dec 8 is its date, Dec 5 is that of chap 5, and the three intermediate dates, Dec 1-3, belong to chaps 2-4, and Dec 30 for chap 11, and Bob's your uncle.
As mentioned in the Amrit discussion, another source has it that it and Patto are translations. This could be credible given the lack of any audio to be found, and the e-book doesn't really invalidate that. One would have to compare the Last Testament discourses of those days with the Patto ones to see if they line up, or perhaps whether the LT themes of those days might make it worthwhile (of interest) to translate. Possibly a longshot, but if not a translation, some of those dates have two LTs already, so a third talk might have been a squeeze. Who knows? The Great Mystery?
As for Oct 27, 1986, that date is free, a break in a long line of Beyond Enlightenment daily discourses. And fwiw, if one wants to consider that Doc X has it all right, and the e-book is wrong, then Dec 1-3 are open with no discourses and all the other dates have only one other discourse those days, from Sermons in Stones. Doable but why would there be no audio? Again, who knows?
About the publisher of the real hard copy book, the previous version of Patto's page in the wiki had it as Rajneesh Foundation. There may not be much conflict about this, just different names for the same people. Source for the "Rajanisadhama Prakasana" is Hathi Trust, a consortium of mainly American Universities. They have a number of Osho's Hindi books squirreled away, some fairly obscure.
