Osho's manuscripts were written when he was living in Jabalpur in the 1960s. They are unique, as no writings from his hand are preserved with the exception of personal letters.

Osho donated them to his former secretary, his cousin Arvind Kumar Jain.

They date from 1960 to 1968 when Osho finally ended preparing written papers for his lectures and articles. The manuscripts were all later typewritten by his secretary and prepared for printing. From 1968 onwards his publications are all based on transcripts of recorded discourses.

The origin of the paper he used was Orient Paper Mills in Amlai MP, where his brothers Akalank and Shailendra later worked. Its size is English folio, 13 by 9 inches (32.5 x 20 cm).

Osho was writing with his Parker pen in various colours of ink (also Parker): royal blue, blue, black and green and most rarely in red ink. His preference was royal blue and black ink.

In some manuscripts for articles, English words are occasionally added in brackets.
