I became a sannyasin end of 1976 and went to Poona in 1978. I have been a staffmember for the first Rajneesh meditation center in Amsterdam called the Amitabh Rajneesh Meditation Center for about a year then.

I haven't been going through life as a sannyasin for quite some years, yet I feel the years being with Rajneesh have been of great transformational value for me and is still close in my heart. I guess that never changes.

What follows here are parts of the lecture that was given by Rajneesh on Nov 8, 1978. I dont quite remember how I got it but it dates from the time I was working at Amitabh. I have always kept the paper because even today it holds a lot of significance to me.

from the series Sufism: Unio Mystica"

First:

To establish this perfect unity, consciousness must first unify itself in terms of all its personal aspects by rejecting no thing which is experientally real in itself. The first step towards bliss is to be One.

Second:

In order to accomplish that, consciousness must first disidentify from all fixed conceptual selves with which it has identified itself, because if it holds to being some fixed and enduring conceptual self, there will be no tolerance for those experiental realities which are in contradiction with this fixed, conceptual, official self.
If you have a certain idea how you should be, then you cannot accept the experiental truths of your being. It is the ideal that creates the problem. Self communion is the base of all joy.
To bring about a personal unity in consciousness, I must first take my stand as being no thing fixed or enduring, but hold myself to be only the moment-to moment experiental reality which arises in consciousness.
Yes, the sky is also available, but only to those whose roots have gone deep into the earth. If a person can accept his reality as it is, in that very acceptance all tensions disappear, anguish, anxiety, despair, they simply evaporate. And when there is no anxiety, no tension, no fragmentation, no division, no schizophrenia, then suddenly there is joy.
All that is needed is to remove the ideals, because those ideals are functioning as blocks.

As peculiar and contradictory as it may sound, peace is to be found only in the midst of pain and never by struggling against or running away from what is considered to be the negative or painful.
Peace can be attained only by accepting and absorbing the painful, not by rejecting it. Once you accept it that energy becomes yours.
Psychological pain does not exist just because of the mere presence alone of some stimulus or reality termed painful. Rather, the pain is produced by the interpretation of the fact or reality which produces the tendency to avoid or resist that fact. It is because of the condemnation or interpretation that psychological pain arises.
Pain is not inherent in any feeling, but arises only after the intent to reject it arises.

Fear and trembling

See the beauty of fear. See the alchemical work of fear. It is simply trying to prepare you for the situation, so you can accept the challenge.
The feeling of psychological pain is created by the attempt to seperate consciousness from itself. The splitting of the unity of consciousness into the duality of a conceptual observing entity which tries to run away from, distort or overpower the rejected feeling and the observed feeling itself. If consciousness in duality is the cause of pain, then only consciousness in unity can be the elimination of pain.
In unity is the ending of pain.
You are not the observed, you are not the observer, you are both.
Do not create a division of subject and object, the observer is the observed. The seer is the seen.

Choiceless awareness

When without condemnation, justification, you are there, then in that choiceless awareness all psychological pain simply evaporates as dewdrops in the early morning sun.
This is the Tao, God, when you are not divided, when the observer has become the observed, when you are not divided in any way. Moment to moment, some moments may be elation, other moments it maybe sadness, tenderness etc.
The communion with the pain does not bring greater pain but actually yields liberation and joy. Be the truth and the truth will set you free.
Freedom is not an ideal, it is a by-product of accepting whosoever you are. Acceptance has to be unconditional, for no reason or motivation, then only it frees.
