Talk:Geeta-Darshan, Bhag 8 (गीता-दर्शन, भाग आठ)

All the other Geeta Darshan Volumes, 1 to 7, have long had cover images and pub data to represent both their 90s and 2003 editions. Vol 8 has had none up to now. Finally, a cover image and lots of pub data have shown up; now, Vol 8 is known to have existed, at least in 2003. And OIF's sweeping copyright claim, dating from 1977-78, suggests it was around earlier as well.

One other "validating its existence" type of act was done today with Vol 8, and that was to delete the 1971 edition. 1971 editions have been claimed for all the Volumes, which has always been absurd for all but the first three, since talks for all after Vol 4 are after Mar 1972. A 1971 edition even for Vol 3 would be a push, since its last talks were given end of May 1971. But okay.

Today, a small step was taken to correct that. The so-called 1973-reprint-1977 editions might also be considered for the chopping block as well, since all are identical, none have shown up and, for Vols 7 and 8, as absurd as the 1971 editions. Quite likely something was done with GD in those days, but surely not what is claimed by the current wiki.

In fact, rationalizing the whole Geeta Darshan epic series is long overdue. One other anomaly that pervades its coverage in the wiki is the confusion between the eight-Vol system and the 17/18-Vol system. It is likely that the cover images for the 1971 edition are not for Vol 1 of a putative eight-Vol system but the other one. And evidence of an early Vol 7 from 1973, which can only be of the 17/18-Vol system, suggests that many and possibly all the first editions were in that format.

And never mind "17/18". What kind of a beast is that? Is that 1973 Vol 7 based on Adhyaya 7 or 8, the latter being a possibility if that terribly confusing first tome, "Vol 1/2" is counted as the first volume, the one about adhyaya 3 being called Vol 2 because it is only the second actual book and so on. We could have more pages for Geeta Darshan Vols than we do for Ashtavakra: Mahageeta (अष्‍टावक्र : महागीता) (series) Vols. It doesn't bear thinking about.
