Template talk:Book

Is it possible to configure the template so that the "translated from" field can be completely eliminated when it is empty? Should not affect appearance of existing pages except to get rid of that unnecessary and jarring distraction. Or else, when it is empty, have small text appear that indicates it is original language, not translated. -- doofus-9 20:03, 26 August 2017 (UTC)

you're in luck with this one ;) --Rudra (talk) 01:29, 28 August 2017 (UTC)

Except i was wrong that appearance would not be affected. Now there is a larger-than-normal gap between elements on the page, almost like a missing front tooth. I imagine it would be a lot more difficult to get rid of that extra space. It may still be an improvement, i dunno. How would the typical visitor view it? Maybe "Not a translation" or some such phrase would be better. Your call. -- doofus-9 15:59, 28 August 2017 (UTC)

should be fixed now.... --Rudra (talk) 17:13, 28 August 2017 (UTC)

That's great! I guess it wasn't a big deal. In luck again! -- doofus-9 03:54, 29 August 2017 (UTC)

Another possible change: The current template creates the impression when on a book page that "editions" is a section and can be edited like one, ie there is a clickable "[edit]" link beside "editions", which looks for all the world like what a wikitext "==editions==" would produce. Clicking on that link takes you to View source for Template:Book. Previously, before template editing was protected, it led to editing the template (for non-admins), so it was protected, but the edit link is still pretty useless and confusing. If "editions" COULD be edited as a section, it would be both consistent/normal and useful. Or just take out the edit link. -- doofus-9 17:18, 31 October 2017 (UTC)

three times lucky ! --Rudra (talk) 23:48, 31 October 2017 (UTC)
