Osho read voraciously and voluminously, possibly over one hundred thousand books, on every subject under the sun. Many of them he collected and kept in his library. In those, he signed his name and wrote the date he acquired and read it.

It would be impossible to note every book he read but an ad-hoc collection can happen. Most notable would be the 167 he has mentioned in Books I Have Loved.

Sw Satya Vedant says:

"Before enlightenment, his reading was part of his own search, while after that happening, reading became part of his work to help those who were still searching. Reading made it possible for Rajneesh to be familiar with current thinking and research, and its terminology. Thus his reading enabled him to communicate his thoughts and share his experiences in a up-to-date manner". -- p. 67 of The Awakened One. The Life and Work of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, published by Harper & Row in 1982.

It might be added that his wide-ranging reading helped him to understand the cultural backgrounds of all the people who would be coming to him, ie from every country and profession. Whatever, here can be found a few books he deemed it important to read.

For further information on Osho's reading and book-collecting, there are long passages throughout Sw Anand Neeten's Osho Source Book, especially in the section dealing with his time in Jabalpur.
