Preface by the author:
IN GRATITUDE
As I sit at my desk to write this 'Preface' I find it very difficult to put my feelings in words. I am surprised about this state of mine- when I have finished writing the whole book, then why am I struggling to pen down a few words for this preface. I have earlier written my memoirs in Marathi and Hindi too and then too this strange feeling of my inability to translate my feelings into words was present. At that point of time I brushed this shortcoming aside thinking that as it was my first experience I was facing this difficulty. But today this incapability has turned even more acute. I have made several attempts to write a preface and rejected them all. Then a realization dawned upon me that throughout the entire process of writing this book it was relatively easy to put in words the memoirs, giving the description of various instances connected with Osho and his disciples, the Commune and it's function, but it is not possible to say anything satisfactorily about the Master-disciple relationship. At the most the disciple can somehow express his gratitude.
A Master-disciple relationship is an ongoing process and cannot be encaged by definite words. Even the Master leaving his body cannot be the reason to end such a vast and infinite phenomenon. Osho's presence in the form of energy is experienced by his disciples on their path of meditation .It is a very personal affair hence the same cannot be expressed in words.
I had many opportunities to be in personal contact with Osho since my young days. I found it very enriching listening to him either in private or public meetings at different locations and at different times during different phases of my life. I had the good fortune to be closely associated with Osho and his work. I was also fortunate to be in his presence to listen to thousands of his discourses which enabled me to have more clarity in my perspective. The cumulative effect was that my life in a subtle way started transforming and taking a new shape.
Here I would like to confess that I used to bother Osho every now and then with my personal and petty problems. But Osho's compassion was such that he always guided me irrespective of the fact whether the matter was big or small. His insight always gave me clarity and some of them proved to be the turning points in my life.
Osho's presence, his energy is beyond time but listening to his discourses and meditating in his subtle presence invariably brings us to the point of'HERE AND NOW' and this awareness transcends us beyond mind and body.
I do not think there would have been even a remote chance for me to gather courage and tread on the path of spiritual journey considering my strong atheistic beliefs in my early days where meditation was not a consideration at all had Osho not become a part of my life.
In this book I have poured my heart out while taking you through the numerous incidents that happened with Osho and around him. Osho's insights and multidimensional approach revealed through them will give an opportunity to introspect and rethink about so many aspects we encounter in our lives which one might have left untouched otherwise.
I enjoyed writing this book as 1 re-lived those moments with Osho while narrating these unique instances with such an extraordinary being.
I hope you too enjoy such moments with Osho while reading this book.
About the author (by his daughter and the editor of this book, Sushma):
Satya Niranjan is connected with Osho since early 1960s and is Osho sannyasin since 1972. He was born in a small town named Niphad, in the state of Maharashtra, India. Being a brilliant child he could complete his graduation course despite of great hardships especially after he lost his father when he was sixteen years and studying in high school. He played a leading role in bringing up his four brothers and a sister and his widowed mother by supporting them all and bravely shouldering all the responsibilities which enabled them to lead a well settled life in the city of Pune after leaving their small town of Niphad.
He was greatly influenced in his childhood by his grandmother and his father who had unknowingly left their imprints of simplicity and spirituality on his being. His father was a very non-ambitious man and utterly simple by nature.
As a teenager he would see his mother work day and night and keep a brave and strong face before her children while enduring all kinds of hardships one after another bestowed upon her by unkind circumstances. She remained a pillar of strength all through which imbibed the quality of integrity and sincerity and ability to face any type of hardship without fear in all her children.
Satya Niranjan has attended thousands of Osho's discourses and visits Osho Meditation Center in Pune regularly since it's inception in March 1974. He has attendedmany Meditation Camps conducted by Osho himself at different places in India. He also visited Osho Commune in Rajneeshpuram, Oregon,USA with his wife four times to participate in the World Annual Celebrations in Osho's presence. In the process he got associated with hundreds of Osho lovers. Though Osho had given him the name 'Satya Niranjan' when he was initiated into sannyas, he would address him by this legal name, 'Bagmarji'. Hence most of the sannyasins also affectionately called him by the same name. While leading his spiritual life he also took good care of his family comprising of five children, wife and mother.
Since past few years he conducts meditation camps at various places in India and abroad. He has authored his first book based on Osho- Memoirs in Marathi and then in Hindi which received a very good response.
Currently, after retiring from his profession as a Tax Consultant in 1995, he devotes most of his time for his meditation and conducting Meditation Camps worldwide.
