Osho wrote many letters in Hindi and English to Sw Chaitanya Veetaraga, some of which were published in various letter collections. This one is an English original dated 20th May 1971. It was published in The Silent Music as letter #18, and later in A Cup of Tea as letter #247.

The letterhead reads:

acharya rajneesh on top in lower-case
A-1 WOODLAND PEDDAR ROAD BOMBAY-26 PHONE : 382184 in blue ALL-CAPS

The logo in the upper right corner is a "standard" Jeevan Jagriti Kendra logo in two colours.

The whole letter is written in black ink except for a bright red signature. An interesting feature of this letter and the one written to Veetaraga on the 23rd is the correction of the spelling, or at least the transliteration, of his name. This happens twice in a few days, with correct transliterations in between, on the 21st and 22nd. Note also the unique style of crossing out the mistake.

dear chaitanya veetraga,
Love. Are you really aware of what anger is?

Are you really aware of it when it is present?

I ask three questions because man is never present in the present.

Man lives in the past and only becomes aware of anything when it has become a part of memory.

One becomes aware of anger or sadness only when they are all over.

And then awareness is just pseudo-awareness.

It is not awareness but remembering.

And remembering leads nowhere.

Because it is running in a circle.

And then one can fight with anger but can never understand it.

And fighting with anger is anger -- of course more subtle, and therefore more strong and more poisonous.

So do not think about anger, or sadness, or happiness.

And do not misunderstand their remembering as their awareness.

But be AWARE when anger is present.

Be totally conscious of it.

Live it consciously.

And do not escape from it.

And then you will know it what it is.

And to understand it is to transcend it.

And then you will find a silence decending* on you which passes all understanding.

Rajneesh ke pranam

* Most likely this is typo. It should read "descending".
