Letter written on 20 Sep 1960
Letter to Gulab Bhai Soni, in Gadarwara. It is unknown if it was published. It was written on 20th September 1960, on his personal letterhead stationery of the day: The top left corner reads: Rajneesh / Darshan Vibhag (Philosophy Dept) / Mahakoshal Mahavidhalaya (Mahakoshal University). The top right reads: Nivas (Home) / Yogesh Bhavan, Napiertown / Jabalpur (M.P.). Many of his letters on this letterhead have had the number 115 added in by hand before "Yogesh Bhavan" to complete his address; this is one of them. In fact, it is not only the earliest known specimen of this letterhead but of any of Osho's personal letterheads.
The wiki has images of three other short letters written to Gulab Bhai. The three known ones are all written on postcards:
- Dear Gulab Bhai,
- Received your invitation. I will be coming to Gadarwara by the morning passenger (train) on 24th September. Take care of peace and discipline in the assembly. Even if the number (of people) are less and the atmosphere remained calm then some talks of (my) mind can be told. This I am writing because my experience to go in such celebrations in not pleasant. I am coming because of you. There were many invitations for Durgotsav in Jabalpur; but because of the reasons as instructed above I have turned down them. It is better if the subject (of talk) is informed in advance. "Dharm Aur Sadhna - (Religion And Meditation)" - subject would be good. After talking on this subject itself I have returned back from Bombay, Poona and Vidisha few days back.
- Rest when we meet. Convey my pranam to all.
- Rajneesh Ke Pranam
- 20 Sept. 1960
Note: As per Hindu calendar of 1960 Durgashtami was on Wednesday, September 28, 1960 - this is celebrated in Navratri normally two days before Dusshra - and DURGOTSAV starts 4/5 days before Durgashtami. This festival Devi Durga is also celebrated in similar lines with Ganesh Festival. For five days there would be big idol of Durga Devi in a huge public shamiyana and after Ashtami Pooja the idol will be immerse into water. So there a large public gatherings during this festival.
