Letter written on 22 Mar 1963 xm

This is one of hundreds of letters Osho wrote to Ma Anandmayee, then known as Madan Kunwar Parakh. It was written around midnight on 22nd March 1963. The letterhead has "Acharya Rajneesh" in a large, messy font to the right of and above the rest, which reads:

Osho's salutation in this letter is "प्रिय मां", Priya Maan, Dear Mom. Of the hand-written marks seen in other letters, there is a black tick mark but no red one, and a faint unreadable mirror-image number in the bottom right corner. (Part of the problem in this case is that the number is obscured by Osho's signature.) A mystery smeared ink blot in the bottom left may be accidental, irrelevant or intended to cover some writing.

This letter has been published in Krantibeej (क्रांतिबीज) as letter 4 (edited and trimmed text) and later in Bhavna Ke Bhojpatron Par Osho (भावना के भोजपत्रों पर ओशो) on p 209.

The PS reads: "Your letter is received. What a pleasure - how to express? Convey my pranam to Shree Shukla Ji."

आचार्य रजनीश दर्शन विभाग महाकोशल कला महाविध्यालय ११५, नेपियर टाउन, जबलपुर (म. प्र.) प्रिय मां, सुबह एक उपदेश सुना है। अनायास ही सुनने में आया है। एक साधु बोलते थे। मैं उस राह से निकला तो सुन पड़ा। वे बोल रहे थे कि धार्मिक होने का अर्थ ईश्वर-भीरू होना है। जो ईश्वर से ड़रता है वही धार्मिक है। भय ही उस पर प्रेम लाता है। ‘भय बिन होई न प्रीति।’ प्रेम भय के अभाव में असंभव है। साधारणतः, जिन्हें धार्मिक कहा जाता है; वे शायद भय के कारण ही होते हैं। जिन्हें नैतिक कहा जता है : उनके आधार में भी भय ही होता है। कांट ने कहा है : ईश्वर न हो तो भी उसका मानना आवश्यक है। यह भी शायद इसीलिए ही कि उसका भय लोगों को शुभ बनाता है। मैं इन बातों को सुनता हूँ तो हंसे बिना नहीं रहा जाता है। इतनी भ्रांत और असत्य शायद और कोई बात नहीं होसकती है। धर्म का भय से कोई संबंध नहीं है। धर्म तो अभय से उत्पन्न होता है। प्रेम भी भय के साथ असंभव है। भय प्रेम का दिखावा पैदा कर सकता है लेकिन अभिनय के पीछे अप्रेम के अतिरिक्त और कुछ नहिं होसकता है। और वह धार्मिकता और नैतिकता जो भय पर आधारित होती है; सत्य नहीं, मिथ्या है। क्योंकि, भय पर कोई भी सत्य खड़ा नहीं होसकता है। ईश्वरानुभूति अभय-चेतना में उपलब्ध होती है। या कि ठीक हो यदि कहें कि अभय-चैतन्य ही ईश्वरानुभूति है। जिस क्षण समस्त भय-ग्रंथियां चित्त से विसर्जित हो जाती हैं उस क्षण जो होता है वही सत्य-साक्षात्‌ है। रजनीश के प्रणाम अर्धरात्रि: २२-३-६३ पुनश्च: तुम्हारा पत्र मिला है। कितनी खुशी हुई – कैसे कहूँ? श्री शुक्ला जी को मेरे प्रणाम कहें।
