Letter written to Sw Anand Maitreya, whom Osho addressed as Mathura Babu, on 2 Jan 1970. It has been published in Prem Ke Phool (प्रेम के फूल), as letter #50.

प्रिय मथुरा बाबू,
प्रेम। पत्र मिला है।

प्रयोजन खोजते ही क्यों है ?

खोजेंगे तो वह मिलेगा ही नहीं।

क्योंकि, वह तो सदा खोजनेवाले में ही छिपा है।

जीवन निष्प्रयोजन है।

क्योंकि, जीवन स्वयं ही अपना प्रयोजन है।

इसलिए जो निष्प्रयोजन जीता है, वही केवल जीता है।

जियें -- और क्या जीना ही काफी नहीं है ?

जीने से और ज्यादा की आकांक्षा जी ही न पाने से पैदा होती है।

और इससे ही मृत्यु का भय भी पकड़ता है।

जो जीता है, उसकी मृत्यु ही कहां है ?

जीना जहां समग्र और सघन है, वहां मृत्यु के भय के लिए अवकाश ही नहीं है।

वहां तो मृत्यु के लिए भी अवकाश नहीं है।

लेकिन प्रयोजन की भाषा में न सोचें।

वह भाषा ही रुग्ण है।

आकाश निष्प्रयोजन है।

पृथ्वी निष्प्रयोजन है।

परमात्मा निष्प्रयोजन है।

फूल निष्प्रयोजन खिलते हैं।

और तारें निष्प्रयोजन चमकते हैं।

तो बेचारे मनुष्य ने ही क्या बिगाड़ा है कि वह निष्प्रयोजन न होसके ?

लेकिन मनुष्य सोच सकता है, इसलिए उपद्रव में पड़ता है।

थोड़ा सोच सदा ही उपद्रव में लेजाता है।

सोचना ही है तो पूरा सोचें।

फिर सिर घूम जाता है और सोचने से मुक्ति होजाती है।

और तभी जीने का प्रारंभ होता है।
