Letter written on 7 Feb 1961 xm

This is one of hundreds of letters Osho wrote to Ma Anandmayee, then known as Madan Kunwar Parakh. It was written around midnight on 7th February 1961, on his personal letterhead stationery of the day: The top left corner reads: Rajneesh / Darshan Vibhag (Philosophy Dept) / Mahakoshal Mahavidhalaya (Mahakoshal University). The top right reads: Nivas (Home) / Yogesh Bhavan, Napiertown / Jabalpur (M.P.). Many of his letters on this letterhead have had the number 115 added in by hand before "Yogesh Bhavan" to complete his address, but not this one.

This letter has none of the marks and numbers that have been found in some other letters except a pale blue figure of unknown significance in the top left and another bottom right. Osho's usual salutation, "प्रिय मां" (Priya Maan, Dear Mom), is also used here. And the letterhead has been printed on paper with a watermark, "JUPITER BOND".

The date is on the top, with "अर्धरात्रि", (adhratri, or midnight).

Osho writes in grief about riots spread in the town (Jabalpur) due to Hindu Muslim row. He is seeing that man is animal in the roots - humanity is just superficial - little scratching and man is exposed. Such condition can not allow the nation to rise and with this we (India) can not achieve to be a dignified civilization.

This letter has been published, in Bhavna Ke Bhojpatron Par Osho (भावना के भोजपत्रों पर ओशो) on p 79 (2002 Diamond edition).

रजनीश                   निवास: दर्शन विभाग               योगेश भवन, नेपियर टाउन महाकोशल महाविद्यालय         जबलपुर (म. प्र.) ७ फर. १९६१ अर्धरात्रि पूज्य मां, यह पत्र बहुत दुखद क्षणों में लिख रहा हूँ। पूरा नगर उपद्रव में डूबा हुआ है। सैंकडों मकान धू-धूकर अग्नि में जल रहे हैं। एक क्षुद्र सी बात को लेकर हिंदु - मुस्तिम दंगा उठ खड़ा हुआ है। यह और भी दुःख की बात है कि हिन्दुओं ने ही उपद्रव प्रारंभ किया है। अभी अभी गोलियों और हजारों दंगाइयों की आवाज से पूरा नगर कंप गया है। मनुष्य मूल में कितना पशु है। यह आंखों से देख रहा हूँ। उसकी मनुष्यता जैसे बहुत ऊपरी है और जरा सी खरोंच उसे नंगा कर देती है। यह स्थिति राष्ट्र को खड़ा होने देने में बहुत बाधक है। इसके रहते हम विश्व में गौरवशाली सभ्यता को उपलब्ध नहीं कर सकते हैं। इसे बदलने को कुछ करना अनिवार्य है। मेरा मन बहुत चिंतित है। तीन दिन से निरंतर लोगों से मिल रहा हूँ और उन्हें समझा रहा हूँ। यह पत्र भी जल्दी में ही लिख रहा हूँ : विस्तार से बाद में लिखूँगा। यह पहुँचेगा भी अभी, इसमें भी में संदेह है क्योंकि डाक-तार की सारी व्यवस्था ठप्प हो गई मालुम होती है। सबको मेरे प्रणाम। रजनीश के प्रणाम (पुनश्च: गुरुजी का पत्र मिल गया है। निश्चिंत होते ही उन्हें लिखूंगा।)
