Letter written on Nov 1960

This is one of hundreds of letters Osho wrote to Ma Anandmayee, then known as Madan Kunwar Parakh. It is undated, but text of the letter gives a clue that it is written 23 or 24 Nov 1960, see discussion. It is written on his letterhead stationery of the day: The top left corner reads: Rajneesh / Darshan Vibhag (Philosophy Dept) / Mahakoshal Mahavidhalaya (Mahakoshal University). The top right reads: Nivas (Home) / Yogesh Bhavan, Napiertown / Jabalpur (M.P.). Most others of this letterhead class have a handwritten "115" before Yogesh Bhavan. This one has nothing.

In addition to the text of the letter, there is a blue handwritten "2" in a circle above the top right stationery block, and a red tick mark below the top left block.

Osho addresses her with "प्रिय मां", Priya Maan, Dear Mom.

रजनीश दर्शन विभाग महाकोशल महाविद्यालय निवास: योगेश भवन, नेपियरटाउन जबलपुर (म. प्र.) प्रिय मां, पद-स्पर्श। आपका आशीष पत्र। बहुत खुशी हुई। मेरा चित्र मांगा है। चांदा जब आउँ तब उसे लेने की व्यवस्था करलें। वैसे, वह चित्र तो आपके हृदय में हैं। कागज पर तो मृत चित्र ही होते हैं : हृदय में जीवित प्रति-छवि बन जाती है। उससे बोला जासकता है – उसे छुआ जासकता है – उससे प्रत्युत्तर पाये जासकते हैं। आंखें बंद करें और देखें। क्या मैं भीतर ही नहीं हूँ? एक बात और – मृत चित्र में ‘मैं’ कहां मिल सकूँगा? शरीर मैं नहीं हूँ। कोई भी शरीर नहीं है। हमारी सत्ता शरीर में है पर शरीर पर ही समाप्त नहीं है। “शरीर से प्रथक्‌ और पार मेरी सत्ता है” – ऐसा बोध मन में जगायें। उस बोध के बिना दुख निरोध नहीं होता है। शरीर और आत्मा का मिथ्या-तादात्म्य छोड़ देना जीवन की सार्थकता और आनंद को पालेना है। शरीर के साथ अपने को एक जानने से दूसरों से हम प्रथक्‌ दीखने लगते हैं। यह असत्य-विचार गया कि जैसे बूँद को सागर मिल जाता है: वैसे आत्मा को परमात्मा मिल जाता है। तब प्रतीत होता है कि मैं सबके साथ एक हूँ। फूलों के आनंद और तारों के मौन में, घास के तिनकों और पर्वत के शीखरों में – सब में मैं ही हूँ। मैं ही जीवन हूँ। मैं आपसे अलग नहीं हूँ। अलग कोई है नहीं – हो ही नहीं सकता है। कोई पर नहीं है। जो आपकी हृदय की धड़कन में बैठा है वही मेरी बांस की बांसुरी से भी अपने गीत गारहा है। हम सब एक ही जिवन-संगीत के सम्मिलित स्वर हैं। xxx मैं दिसम्बर की छुट्टियों में आने की सोचता हूँ। छुट्टियां २५ दिस. के करीब होंगी। पर आपका बुलावा निरन्तर अनुभव होरहा है। उठते बैठते आप मुझे बुला रही हूँ। जो आपके भीतर होरहा है वह सब मुझे ठीक से सुनाई पड़ रहा है। इसलिए यदि दिसम्बर के पूर्व ही छिट्टियां पासका तो आनेका प्रयास करूँगा। शेष शुभ। सबको मेरे प्रणाम। बहिनों को मेरा बहुत बहुत स्नेह। रजनीश के प्रणाम

Partial translation

"I am planning to come in the holidays of December. Holidays would start around 25 Dec. But I am feeling your call continuously – you are calling me whether I walk or sit – whatever is happening within you I am listening to all that. So if I get the leaves before December, I would try to come (accordingly). Rest OK. My pranam to all. Lots of love to the sisters. Rajneesh Ke Pranam."
