- Knowing wakefulness, dreaming and deep sleep-each separately -- turiya, the fourth state is attained.
- Constancy of knowledge is the waking state.
- Choosing is the dreaming state.
- Unconsciousness and lack of self-awareness create the illusion of deep sleep.
