Talk:Ashtavakra: Mahageeta (अष्‍टावक्र : महागीता) (series)

I'm cleaning up the last of the Hindi Language Publications to be converted... titles and there are a couple of titles there that suggest even more Mahageeta formats, titles to be added, etc. The titles there are "Mahageeta III" and "Mahageeta II", each thirty discourses and correctly dated and claiming to have been published by Rajneesh Foundation, though without further pub details and not sourced. Don't know what you want to do about them. Clearly, if they were actually published in that format, there would have been a "Mahageeta I" as well. For now will just mark them as "rump page with little useful info."

Update: they published as 9 vols by RF with 10-11 chapters. Above three titles will be deleted.--DhyanAntar 08:40, 17 October 2020 (UTC)

While i'm here, i also wonder about the first nine-volume lot supposedly published by Rebel in 1979. Is there a source for that? I thought Rebel only came in Pune 2. Perhaps it was '89? -- Sarlo (talk) 00:19, 18 August 2014 (PDT)

I am not sure that 30ch.-editions of Rajneesh Foundation exist. What source of that? In that time you didn't know about RF's editions, now we have images of them with 10ch. in each (except the last, 9th, vol). They were published in late 70s and it is unlikely were republished as 3vol set.
I propose to delete all pages of Mahageeta from "Hindi titles to be converted" and also to replace info OIF by Rebel from "Ashtavakra Mahageeta, Vol 3"-Vol 6 to our current 6-vol set. OIF started published books from its own name much later, but not in 2002-2003.--DhyanAntar 13:35, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
Now they deleted.--DhyanAntar 08:54, 17 October 2020 (UTC)

Info on books marked "**": i failed to find any info on those missing books. They may be published by Diamond Pocket Books.

Only one known source for them - the list "Hindi-Diamond" from Shailendra, which states:

With list of books from Amrit Ki Disha (अमृत की दिशा) (image on the right), 2004 ed. we have all titles of Diamond editions in 12 Vol format. Missing vols will get own pages at last !

6th title should be Mera Mujhko Namaskar (मेरा मुझको नमस्कार).--DhyanAntar 10:19, 16 November 2020 (UTC)

The first editions of this series are 9 vols published under the title Mahageeta - महागीता : जनक-अष्‍टावक्र संवाद. I am going to use this word as title and nest three words as sub-title for new pages. The word "Mahageeta" typed on covers by big letters. If you have any objections and would like to use full title, then let me know.--DhyanAntar 10:18, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

I propose remove Rebels 1979 editions inside each volume, first of them is Ashtavakra: Mahageeta, Bhag 1 (अष्‍टावक्र : महागीता, भाग एक) (9 volume set). If we will remove 1979 editions from book pages of 9-vols set, then those pages should rename - to remove colon, because it is not on covers of late OIF's editions of this set.

About the table of this series: i added new columns before first column with first editions. Only vols 2, 3 and 5 have empty data on editions, rest - with images for now.

Also it necessary to update notes of all books for this series.

There is the issue on numbering OIF's edition (2018), they are now in second column: it is unknown what numbering for each volume - number of each volume starts with 1 or one numbering for all vols (continuous).--DhyanAntar 12:45, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

Ah this! This series of editions is certainly a puzzle. Since the claim was made that they are referenced by later Diamond editions i went looking for them. I found only three by my search terms, which should have yielded more i thought but there you go. There were two 2006 editions which both said they were based on 1979 editions but did not name a publisher; and similarly there was a 2003 Diamond edition which referenced a 2002 edition, again no publisher. In all three cases, OIF was named as the copyright holder, dated either 1979 or 2002.

It seems now that the idea of a 1979 Rebel edition should be dead in the water, and if there was a mistake in any such citation, it would not be that it should have been Rebel 1989, since no whiff of 1989 has come from anywhere else. So no to Rebel.

And it would be easy enough, philosophically speaking, to believe that this "1979 edition" might have been a way of referring to the 1976-79 editions, a verbal shortcut, etc. This would a plausible way to make the 1979s disappear as separate entities. If you want to do the work, you're welcome to it. You may have to resuscitate them when they do show up :-) --doofus-9 08:45, 17 January 2019 (UTC)

Removed 1979 editions at all. Now we have instead that OIF 2018 editions, as last column calls. But i see there is not beatiful: late editions (column 5) have titles like "Ashtavakra: Mahageeta, Bhag 1 (अष्‍टावक्र : महागीता, भाग एक)" and earlier editions (Rebels, column 2) have the same title + "(2)". This is icorrect.--DhyanAntar 11:01, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
