Talk:Das Jeevan-Sutra (दस जीवन-सूत्र)

as it originally appeared on p 12 of the pdf
letter #59 of the pdf

The change today of the text and packaging of the piece which we are calling Das Jeevan-Sutra has now featured something other than what was actually in the pdf in that place, ie after the TOC and before the first letter. The two images show the difference. What was originally here was what was in the pdf IN THAT PLACE. Now we have letter #59, which was after letter #58 in the pdf, not before letter #1. We have the Hindi original letter which was translated in Flowers of Love.

The sense of both is the same but there are many small diffs, as seen by the wiki "diff" function. For instance, in the letter, the ten thingies are numbered. On p 12 they are not. The important thing is -- it seems to me -- that the thing here is no longer as it was in the pdf. It is the letter, not the "post-preface" or whatever you want to call it that Chinmaya inserted without context. -- doofus-9 02:47, 24 August 2019 (UTC)

Another way to go with this of course would be to repackage letter #59 as itself, not as the quasi-post-preface that Chinmaya put in without context. Then it is entirely as Osho presented it to Ramchandra, and entirely in its original book context. Then we just have to change the intro. As it is, the intro does not fit with the letter. -- doofus-9 03:40, 24 August 2019 (UTC)

@ doofus, I made that change yesterday, and I woke up this morning with the thought that I should have talked with you first, sorry! I made the changes purely on authority of Shailendra, who wrote:

"Highlighted part on wiki has multiple spelling mistakes, it is better to replace it with blue text in attached file".

So I replaced all of your text with his blue text.

I agree that the text should be the same as the PDF that we show. My feeling is that it would be better to show Osho's original letter.

I will forward you Shailendra's mail. Would you contact him, if that would be necessary? --Sugit (talk) 06:22, 24 August 2019 (UTC)

No problem really. Osho's original letter matches what Shailendra sent. The original concept of this page arose when i had discovered Chinmaya's insertion but not the letter. That insertion made a bit of a hash of it by stripping it of its context, and there's no need for that. The "spelling mistakes" arose either from Chinmaya or the OCR process which converted the pdf image into editable text. No need for that either. Just a little repackaging is needed.

Chinmaya discovered this great letter, which he could see should be highlighted and promoted. Ramchandra also highlighted it by including it in a preface he wrote for another Osho book, Ghat Bhulana Bat Binu (घाट भुलाना बाट बिनु), published in 1972 by Motilal. Perhaps he was inspired to do so by Chinmaya. -- doofus-9 19:17, 24 August 2019 (UTC)
