Talk:Mahaveer-Vani, Bhag 1 (महावीर-वाणी, भाग 1) ver 1.5

Most of the info below is carried over from the discussions for the original 18-chapter versions of Bhag 1 and 2. It has not got obsolete, just the pages themselves have become obsolete because their 18-chapter orientation did not fit with the editions they had some (very incomplete) information on, which have turned out to be these 27-editions (Bhag 1 and 2 ver 1.5). Updates are inserted where appropriate. -- doofus-9 22:24, 27 August 2017 (UTC)

Source for the dates of this series is "Doc X", whose accuracy < 100%. Therefore dates can be considered provisional. (At least there is no conflict with existing discourses.) -- Sarlo (talk) 10:56, 4 February 2014 (PST)

These dates are supported by Neeten's Osho Source Book, citing Gyan Bhed. He adds that the discourses of this series, likely applying to all the Vani series, were given from 8:30 to 10:00 every morning.

TOC below is from Osho World and osho.com audiobook offerings. Titles are the same between them except that OW has none of the material in parentheses, which appear to be entirely o.com's creations, a classificatory system found nowhere else on the net, relating neither to Mahavir, Jainism nor anything else. Even the "धम्म-सुत्त" which G**gle suggested to try instead of "धम्म-सूत्र" -- dhamma and sutta being more Pali-consistent than dhamma and sutra -- got a few more hits but nothing significant. Will discontinue the use of this parenthetical material in the other two Vanis.

Audiobook-sourced TOCs below can be compared to those from the contents scan for Bhag 1 ver 1.5 on the right. We can note now that, as the 27-chapter book publisher and the osho.com audiobook offerer are more or less the same corporate entity, OIF, it is no surprise that the parenthetical classificatory material is included in the book. Note that as the titles for ch 19-27 have been copied from OW, they lack the parenthetical material. -- 22:24, 27 August 2017 (UTC)

OW's offering came in groups of ten mp3's (and much cheaper) and so Vani-1 runs into Vani-2 and -2 into -3, treating the 54 talks as one organic whole, at least as audios. And o.com, while maintaining the grouping of the different volumes, also numbers the talks sequentially, so Vani-2 starts at 19 and so on. Books of course were published separately, with Vani-3 almost invisible. It is not known whether this numbering was followed in the books. -- doofus-9 02:47, 10 March 2017 (UTC)

We can see now that in the recent 27-packs, they are numbered independently. Probably then this was the case in the 18-packs as well, whatever is the case with the audios. -- 22:24, 27 August 2017 (UTC)

And a couple of new notes:

1. About the "edition number": In this case 1/3 in the 1998 edition. Osho's "house" publishers seem to have the habit, especially regarding "special deluxe editions", of giving them a new number every time there's a reprint. So here it is "third special deluxe edition", but really it appears to be no more than a reprint: same cover, same page count, same editorial team, same phototypesetters usw. You can even find "tenth special deluxe edition" for some books but it doesn't necessarily mean it is an actual new edition, never mind the tenth.
2. Made a small alteration in the last title above. It seems OW made a copying mistake, substituting मनुष्य for मनुष्यत्व. Or "Kinetic" / OIF perpetuated a small error from 1988 to 1998. These things will happen. There may be other small discrepancies. -- doofus-9 17:29, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
3. Title of ch.2: title, which printed before the chapter is मंगल व लोकोत्त की भावना, but TOC has another title - मंगल व लोकोत्त की भावना. Both words having similar meaning- Good (लोकोत्तर= Better लोकोत्तम= Best). Chapter titles are given by the editor, not by Osho. If i understood rightly this book has early edition ≤1974 of Jeevan Jagriti Kendra see File:Two Hundred Two - p.202-203-110.jpg and perhaps it is first edition, which publisher earlier than 3-vol set??--DhyanAntar 10:42, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

This is not right: there are meant first and second vols of 3 vol format. On the time of Two Hundred Two only first two vols were published, the third volume was published later, in 1976.--DhyanAntar 04:35, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
