Deliberations

The principal source of the confusion surrounding and permeating this book appears to be wires crossed with Gahre Pani Paith (गहरे पानी पैठ). Thus it will be useful to explore the relationship of these two books, since their overlapping/merging is deep-rooted and long-standing. This exploration and ancillary matters have been left more or less as they were originally written. Resolution awaits at the end!

The numbers game

A good framework for dealing with all this can come from considering the amazing variety of choices for number of discourses. Various sources suggest four, six, seven, ten, thirteen, thirty-three and beyond. So:

Four: In recent years, the Diamond and OMI editions have both had four chapters, with the same titles in the same order and with the page count the same order of magnitude. This is good, has an appearance of solidity.

Six: According to the CD-ROM, Dimensions Beyond the Known, MKAD's translation, has six chapter-discourses. This also seems like a relatively solid datum, corroborated by numerous editions of Dimensions.

For parallel-universe fans, let it also be noted that Gahre has its four-and-six aspects. The six is again the CD-ROM, ie it shows six discourse-chapters for Gahre's translation, Hidden Mysteries, and the four is Gahre "itself." It is augmented by two one-chapter booklets on Jyotish, Indian Astrology, to make six in the translation. And a fairly useless factoid but nonetheless interesting: the 2012 Diamond edition of Gahre and the 2010 OMI edition of MKAD have exactly the same picture of Osho, not exactly a high-odds possibility. Got the hair on the back of your neck standing on end yet?

Seven: Many of the Indian free download audio sites have seven mp3-discourses. Most will be based on Osho World's seven, but since they have no titles, this might be considered a little less solid, but, okay, let that fact be noted.

For ten we have, from Osho World again, an audiobook offering for the two Jyotish discourses, which they identify as "Mai Kahta Ankhan Dekhi, 9 to 10". You might wonder about the first eight chapters of MKAD in OW's audiobook section. Where and what are they? One has to dig deep but they do have at least 1 to 4 and, mirabile dictu, with the same titles as the other guys in the four-chapter print TOC below.

And we have "Doc X", giving dates for MKAD that have a few small mistakes but basically correspond to dates for the first four of MKAD plus the whole of Gahre, plus the two Jyotish dates. This sort of aligns with the sort of ten of Osho World's audiobook (sans Gahre's four).

The one source of the thirteen info has an excellent record of sorting out these kinds of discrepancies, and that is Tao Vision. So what do they have to offer this time? Well, they assert that MKAD is the über-name of an amalgamation of four smaller volumes: the four-discourse versions of MKAD and Gahre, two discourses worth of Jyotish and a three-discourse volume called "Sannyas". This thirteen-theory can thus sort of account for all the other lower numbers AND for the confusion with Gahre. Is that all there is to it?

Well, not exactly. There is also Neeten to consider. He has a few references to MKAD in his Osho Source Book which muddy the waters at first but with some patience they will help, and a first edition cover image is not to be sniffed at.

From his Bibliography section: Main Kahata Akhem Dekhi (What I'm telling you I've seen with my own Eyes). Jevan Jagruti Kendra, 1971. 136 p. 1st ed. Colored front and back. Alt.t.: Hidden Mysteries.
From his Appendix: Main Kahta Akhan Dekhi (Dimensions Beyond the Known). 28.02.70-09.07.71.(1973). 7 talks. Bombay. (A)
and Main Kehata Ankhan Dekhi. 28.02-10.07.1971. 10 talks. Poona.
and from the Bombay section: the image used for the first cover, though without any info attached.

Okay. So Neeten has got into the spirit of entangling Gahre and MKAD. His book cover image matches the description of the cover in his Bibliography section and though there is nothing on that cover to suggest Gahre, either as a component of MKAD or whatever, the alt-title suggested is of course Gahre's translation title. And the 1971 pub date is a puzzler, as the CD-ROM says the final discourses of MKAD were not given until 1973. Can this be a misbegotten Gahre cover, even though it reads MKAD in Devanagari? Resolution awaits below.

To finish off the numbers-of-discourses exploration, the 33 comes from a G**gle Books peek inside the 2006 Diamond Books edition of Kranti Sutra (क्रांति सूत्र) (compilation). Diamond says that Kranti was previously published as chapters 11-33 of MKAD. We can quibble or not about the fact that it actually has only 22 chapters, not 23, but note that those 22 chapters are fairly short, only coming to 168 pages. Thus, if we consider what a 33-chapter MKAD might look like, it will not be the purported 525-page monster of the 1988 Tao edition. (How about 325? Could 525 be a mistake? What kind of scenario would 525 pages fit anyway, irrespective of Kranti? Perhaps a 57-chapter version is lurking there.)

To check if content of Main Kahta Aankhan Dekhi 2 (मैं कहता आंखन देखी २) is the same as current book. Title page has not "2". So if it is the same book, then it needs to move that edition to this book.--DhyanAntar 13:44, 6 October 2020 (UTC)

Yes, it's the same content as later Rebel edition. "2" was added to its cover in order to distinguish with previous 4-chapter version. As title page don't have this "2", then it that 1979 edition was moved to current page.--DhyanAntar 17:05, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

It is found dust cover for first edition and it match with our dust jacket "MKAD-70s.jpg". I will move that 'unknown' 1971 edition to first edition Jul 1971.--DhyanAntar 12:32, 3 January 2022 (UTC)

Some miscellaneous infobits

And ya never know: In a G**gle Books peek inside the Diamond Books edition of Nav-Sannyas Kya? (नव-संन्यास क्या?), Diamond says that some of that book's material -- not clear what or how much -- is from MKAD discourse 34. This is in some ways too outrageous to be true, so it would be premature to give this rumour the same status as some of the other chapter count info, especially remembering that Diamond is the source of the rumour that Kranti was originally ch 11-33 of MKAD. But Nav-Sannyas may resonate with the fourth component volume cited by Tao Vision, "Sannyas", in some way not yet apparent, so we'll keep it around.

Meanwhile, the four-discourse chapter titles of OMI's and Diamond's recent books, and osho.com's and Osho World's audiobooks are all the same. This is the feature with the strongest resonance in all this vast array of infobits and rumours. To add to that, the Hindi blurb for the book describes it as autobiographical, in keeping with the autobiographical themes of the English chapter titles and indeed of the book's title (roughly "I am saying what my eyes have seen"), though these chapter titles seem unrelated to those of Dimensions:

1. सत्य सार्वभौम है
2. चिन्मय कौन? अजन्मा क्या?
3. आकाश जैसा शाश्वत है सत्य
4. धर्म की गति ओर तेज हो!

Possibly the features that have been the most misleading in this whole business are these English translations. Why, when most sources associate the two Jyotish chapters with MKAD, were they grafted onto Gahre in Hidden Mysteries? And where did those two other chapters of Dimensions come from? Were they ever published in another context? Is their original language even known? They may have been sensible English publishing decisions but as far as MKAD is concerned, it makes more sense to leave them out of any reckoning. Then we are not distracted by their 1973ness when considering the 1971 edition, which can now have an unambiguous four chapters. Yes!

Finally, a note on transliteration. MKAD has more than its share of transliteration variety, with Mein, Mai, Kehta, Kahata, Akhan, Ankhan and more showing up. The good news is that it doesn't seem to interfere much with relatively complete searches, except that searches for Main and Mein don't find Mai. -- Updated doofus-9 (talk) 16:55, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

Just some stray info. OshoWorld, in their download Hindi section, has 7 mp3s for Main Kahta Akhan Dekhi, numbered as #1 - #7.

But before 2015, they had a Lower Quality collection. Those were also 7 mp3s, same content, but numbered as #1, 2, 3, 4, 40, 41, 42.

I have sometimes seen the numbering of the LQ mp3s to be more correct than the HQ mp3s. --Sugit (talk) 10:52, 15 December 2015 (UTC)

OTOH, 40, 41 and 42 is fairly bizarre when we have been considering all the different possibilities of numbers of talks but have not got above 34 , and that a mighty stretch. -- doofus-9 06:50, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

A consideration of dates

The two entries in Neeten's Appendix section for MKAD merit a closer look, focusing on the dates. One interesting thing is that they both start with Feb 28 but on different years. Might this suggest a possible error somewhere along the line, a wee crossed wire?

Neeten mentions MKAD in the text of his Bombay section as well, and comes up with four specific dates, which are the same dates as the wiki has been using for the first four talks, and which come from the CD-ROM, except that the first one is Feb 28 1971, not the Feb 28 1970 that is in the CD-ROM. Considering that he has Feb 28 1971 in two places for MKAD's start date, even making a conceptual point connected with it in the Bombay text, i have switched it to 1971 in the wiki. That 1970 date was fairly out of place, now that the possibility is raised of all Feb-Mar 1971 (except those silly 1973 dates, which is another story). And it's easy to imagine a simple mistake somewhere along the line, getting the year wrong. Even in the sacred CD-ROM. -- doofus-9 06:50, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

Oshoganga gives the same date as stated in 1979 ed. - 28 Feb 1971. "1970"-mistake appeared in 1971 Hindi edition and was corrected in 1979 big edition.

Jagdish (image on the right) confirmes this date. It seems his afternoon time is more accurate as Osho used to give intimate talks in afternoon time, i will use it for events.--DhyanAntar 06:22, 3 December 2020 (UTC)

A lotus emerges

Shailendra has kindly supplied material connected with the Rebel edition of MKAD. His edition he says is the 7th and was published in 2006. It is probably quite similar to the 1988 Tao edition, as its page count is very close, assuming one page for each of 39 letters in the last chapter. © is 1979.

The TOC below makes it clear that MKAD incorporated a number of other books, including the familiar Gahre and Jyotish, as well as the presumed Nav-Sannyas and a "surprise" -- to yr Western editors -- Main Kaun Hun. And a completely new entrant, Amrit Vani, about which so far nothing is known.

It can be seen that many of the mysteries and confusing and apparently ill-fitting "facts" considered above are resolved in this TOC. In general, Shailendra points out that there was a trend, even before Pune Two, toward consolidating smaller books and booklets into higher quality larger productions, giving the collections the name of one of the components. MKAD seems to have been well suited and placed for this trend to unfold in its name.

A small note about the chapter titles below: There are minor differences between a few of the titles below and their presentation in the TOC's of their separate books. These may even include errors. And with two particular words, i was unable to duplicate their presentation in the image of MKAD's contents. Possibly this reflects a change in the fashion of how particular consonant pairs are joined. The two words are underlined below, in ch 6 and 33.

Details about the rest of it, how the various "problems" in the preceding sections above are resolved, can be found below the TOC.

XIII

It is evident now that as MKAD evolved over the years, it accumulated more and more fellow-travelers, and this is reflected in the numbers. And the English translations of MKAD and Gahre -- the sixes -- have been completely irrelevant to Hindi publishing. The two Jyotish chapters which ostensibly "migrated" from MKAD to Gahre -- though really only in translation -- are back in the fold, and audiowise have possibly always been (the case anyway at Osho World's bundle of ten).

And Tao Vision's thirteen? This is the same package as OW's ten, plus three of what they call "Sannyas". As it happens, a recent find at osho.com of an audiobook offering of three discourses under Nav-Sannyas corresponds well with this, and its titles match those of chapters 40, 41 and 42 in the TOC above (and for a bonus, all the titles in the Nav-Sannyas Kya section above match those of Diamond's 2007 hard copy).

Of course, all of Diamond's apparently outrageous numbers appear to be borne out. The first chapter of their Nav-Sannyas is indeed shown right here to be ch 34 of MKAD. What's not to like about this?

Amrit Vani will have to remain an unknown entity for a while. No search has turned up anything on it. Many offerings for this and that version of Osho "Amrit Vani", when checked out, have turned out to be not relevant, as both Amrit and Vani are somewhat generic terms connected with the words (written or spoken) of the saints and other spiritual figures. Even the individual discourse titles do not ring any bells. So it goes. It's all good. -- doofus-9 17:21, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

What is the name of this book in English? I see the hindi version of this book is for sale on eBay, but since I'm unable to read that language, I'm wondering if there is a version in the English language? Swamisitar (talk) 11:49, 16 March 2020 (UTC)

Curious Question: would there be any value in purchasing an original copy of Rajneesh, Acharya: Main Kehta Ankhan Dekhi. Jeevan Jagriti. 1971. 136p and paying someone to translate the entire booklet into English? Is there any part of Rajneesh, Acharya: Main Kehta Ankhan Dekhi. Jeevan Jagriti. 1971. 136p that was not translated into English? Are there any booklets or parts of booklets OSHO produced which were not translated into English? I would be interested in funding in a non-commercial manner any translation work of any of his non-English books which have never been translated into English. Any thought on this matter? Swamisitar (talk) 01:08, 17 March 2020 (UTC)
There is nothing in the 1971 four-chapter edition that has not been translated, but there are many (most) Hindi original books that have not been translated. However to make a project out of it, however "well-intentioned", would run afoul of the claimed copyright holders, who ARE translating the old untranslated books but at a very slow pace, eking it out over decades, so as not to oversaturate the market supposedly. And you also run the risk of getting a poor quality translation. -- good luck! -- doofus-9 08:53, 17 March 2020 (UTC)

Background

Mahipal, a Bollywood actor, wanted clarity on Osho's ideas and vision so he met him and interviewed him. The interviews were later published as a book Main Kahta Aankhan Dekhi (मैं कहता आंखन देखी) which was edited by him and had a preface written him. There were only four chapters under the original title but was later expanded with other materials. In preface he wrote, "You gave us pain, now give us medicine." and titled the preface "You gave us pain.." (The title probably referred to Bollywood song lyrics). The preface gives background that why he met Osho. Gujarati translation of ch.1 as of MKAD, Swanubhavni Kasotie (સ્વાનુભવની કસોટીએ) had a short biography of Mahipal on its backcovers.
