I recall Osho saying once something along the lines of “When I am gone there will be those who will claim to have had a special relationship with me.” Yet I was taken aback when Anando – whom I knew from as early as the ‘70’s – claimed she had a “unique, very special relationship with Osho.” (Taken aback because as a meditator Anando could hardly not be aware that the journey is about the dissolution, not the promotion, of the ego, which positively thrives on feeling special.)
According to friends who knew her more intimately, she has embellished and misrepresented facts in this book to support her assertion of being special. This account, they say, is “full of lies.”
In a recently published article in “Osho Times” point by point, Amrito identifies many of those of her claims which are simply untrue, backing up his refutation with dates, times and his own personal experience.
If you, the reader, are in any doubt as to whom to believe, let me point out that if anyone had a unique and “very special connection with Osho,” it would have to be Amrito -- his physician of 11 years, constantly by his side and the one chosen by Osho to be with him on his final night.
Amrito’s integrity, his modesty and his devotion are absolutely unassailable…which is only what you’d expect of someone in a position of such privilege. Rather than flaunt that to ensure we understand his importance and exactly how close he was to Osho, he has always only ever been mindful of his great good fortune.
