Venues and times

1974 is a big year with the move to Pune in March. A lot of infrastructure had to be built to repurpose those nice old Koregaon Park estates as Shree Rajneesh Ashram, so there were no discourses for a while. And then there were. They were first held on a balcony above Osho's room in Lao Tzu House. By the end of the year, Chuang Tzu Auditorium was available, but Buddha Hall was not, so for now we will assume just Dec for Chuang Tzu.

Some uncertainty exists about when Chuang Tzu Auditorium became operational for Osho's discourses. As of this writing, no 100% reliable source -- ha ha! -- has been found for this information. Anecdotal sources suggest different things, and the announcements (of dates and venues) at the beginnings of discourse tapes have been expunged by Pune authorities, citing (as they do) Osho's guidance.

The CD-ROM does state venues but we have to note that it has the very first Poona One discourses in both English and Hindi in Buddha Hall, though neither it nor even Chuang Tzu had been built, so the CD-ROM is not reliable either.

Meanwhile, Neeten's Osho Source Book has been updated with input from many sources concerning the various verandahs of Lao Tzu House used for discourses and the time(s) discourses were given. It is difficult to form a consistent picture about the porch / balcony / verandah scenario before Chuang Tzu finally came on line in 1975, but Neeten has sifted through this pile of input to come up with a preliminary understanding, may get updated with final revisions to OSB. He shared this by email:

1.First discourses were on the porch, the later car porch. Also in her earlier writings Veena calls this a veranda. Punya has a fine photo from here in OSB.

2. Discourses moved from here in August 1974 to the balcony upstairs in Lao Tzu, backside, called upstairs veranda by Veena. B&W photo from this setting is in a darshan diary.

3. Chuang Tzu was ready in March 1975.

4. Buddha Hall was ready from July 1977.

About the times, it has become clearer. There is a consensus in the sources about a major shift from the pattern of evening talks carried over from Mumbai changing to mornings in Pune. And Neeten's research into the audio versions of these talks has revealed precisely when that major shift occurred, from Roots and Wings ~ 01 to Roots and Wings ~ 02. Silent periods

Without being terribly precise, there are many anecdotal reports on these two silent periods in section 4.5 (link above) from Neeten. They were the result of a bout or bouts of pneumonia which was/were severe enough to give rise to rumours of leaving Pune. Things settled and Osho stayed in Pune, as we know now. -- doofus-9 09:45, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
