Talk:Osho Timeline 1981

There may be some unclarity concerning the exact location of Hindi discourses for this period (Buddha Hall vs Chuang Tzu Auditorium). For now, location has been entered as Buddha Hall.

As of this writing, no reliable source has been found for this information. Anecdotal sources and memory suggest different things, and the announcements (of dates and venues) at the beginnings of discourse tapes have been expunged by Pune authorities, citing (as they do) Osho's guidance.

The CD-ROM does state venues but only for English original talks and those Hindi talks that had been translated as of 1993 or so, only about thirty and most of them preceding Pune One. For 1981, it is completely reliable, since there are no Hindi discourses from that year that have been translated. At the beginning of the Pune One period, it may be less reliable, as neither Buddha Hall nor Chuang Tzu had been built when that period began, but the CD-ROM has the very first discourses in both English and Hindi in Buddha Hall.

A more in-depth exploration of this theme can be found at the page on these venues. -- doofus-9 (talk) 10:15, 2 February 2015 (PST)

And regarding the apparent resumption of talks at the end of the year during the "Silent Period," these were special talks given privately and in fact their dates -- and for Glimpses, chapter numbers as well -- are not known with any precision, so the data entered are approximate, a "best guess" based on the discussions at Talk:Glimpses of a Golden Childhood. -- doofus-9 (talk) 20:01, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

re the May 81 satsangs :

i just inserted them assuming they were done in Osho's presence. my question here is, was he really present at all of them?

and my next question, we also have satsang recordings for the whole of Jun while Osho was already in the US. were they recorded in Poona?

--Rudra (talk) 18:58, 12 March 2015 (UTC)

My memory is not so reliable but i believe he was present for all of them and they did remain in Pune, though the "principal" previous satsang musicians all went to the States. The announcement tracks should say. The Jun 1 one says it was in Pune. -- doofus-9 (talk) 07:22, 13 March 2015 (UTC)

According to the announcements of the satsangs from May 1 through July 13, Osho was present until May 31st (1981-05-31 Satsang ~ Jesus, No 4), not present from June 1st (1981-06-01 Satsang). --Sugit (talk) 12:05, 23 April 2018 (UTC)

Did May's Satsangs really were in the morning? As i understand whey usually were in the evening? I know that period was silent of Master.

Yet one question about May's Satsangs: wiki has not music records for May 23, 28, 29 and 30. Is there confirmation of the presence of Satsangs in these dates?

Maybe Osho was present in Jul 17? 1981-07-17 Guru Purnima album says: "Guru Purnima Day Celebration. Chidvilas, Montclair, New Jersey, U.S.A." This place was before Oregon's rancho.--DhyanAntar 12:22, 20 December 2017 (UTC)

Can anyone make comments about May's events and Jul 17?--DhyanAntar 05:54, 5 January 2018 (UTC)

there were several silent satsangs while Osho was in Chidvilas, but i have no idea when. --Rudra 13:40, 11 January 2018 (UTC)

When Osho went into his silent period, two "normal" daily events were lost, the morning discourse and the evening darshan. The replacement for the darshan was not long in coming, and was permanent, in that Osho never resumed giving sannyas personally, or sat around talking to sannyasins about their personal questions in the small evening groups as he had been.

The replacement event was other people giving sannyas in his name. The first and most prominent of the sannyas-givers, lasting through a couple of years (?) at the ranch, was Sw Ananda Teertha, widely seen as a potential successor to Osho, until their break in 1984-ish.

It was the morning event, discourse, that was eventually replaced by the satsangs with music and silence. That was every morning during May 1981, and then only in celebrations for a few years at the ranch, until Osho came out speaking again. -- doofus-9 23:29, 11 January 2018 (UTC)

Removed Nirvana Now or Never, # 24-27. No evidences of existence them. CD-ROM is missing them.--DhyanAntar 09:27, 17 January 2018 (UTC)

It says here: "21 Apr 1981 the beginning of the (mostly) Silent Period is announced". In Bodhena's Adventures in Samsara p.91, it says "Then, on April 10, he sent a message through Laxmi that he would from now on speak only through the language of silence, and that this would be the ultimate phase of his work." --Sugit (talk) 12:05, 23 April 2018 (UTC)

Ageh gives dates 31 May - date of leaving Poona. Our Timeline says 1 June.--DhyanAntar 16:08, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

from a blog-like place, an account of this time. Author states, "On 10th April there is an announcement that Osho is entering the ultimate stage of his work and that from this date he will speak only through silence. He continues to meet with his secretary ... On 11th April, darshan is held with Teertha, and Satya Vedant initiating sannyasins".

Author goes on to cite from Silent Period ch 2:

OSHO'S VISIT TO THE U.S. IMMIGRATION AND NATURALIZATION SERVICE WAS IN CONNECTION WITH AN APPLICATION FOR PERMANENT RESIDENCE IN THE USA, FILED ON HIS BEHALF A YEAR EARLIER. THESE EXTRACTS ARE HIGHLIGHTS OF WHAT OSHO SAID ABOUT HIS WORK AND VISION.
Q: ON APRIL 11, 1981, IT WAS ANNOUNCED IN POONA THAT BEGINNING MAY 1, 1981 YOU WOULD SPEAK ONLY THROUGH SILENCE AND THAT A NEW PHASE OF YOUR WORK WOULD BEGIN. THIS IS CORRECT?
Osho: This is correct. One month in Poona while I was there. I was simply sitting and people were sitting by my side. Seven thousand sannyasins were living with me there. This was only one hour every day in the morning. Here also, once or twice, we have sat together. Slowly slowly, it will come again, everything, every day... it is kind of a prayer in silent communion.

The page is a fairly decent meditation on Osho's move into silence, and seems to confirm some of the dates here. I would forget about Apr 21 and as for May 31 vs Jun 1, would go with Jun 1. -- doofus-9 03:04, 8 August 2022 (UTC)

The Sound of One Hand Clapping (p.584):

"On the twenty-third of March, Bhagwan spoke for the last time in darshan. For the following seventeen days he remained inside, not appearing for the morning discourse or the evening darshans. Finally, on the tenth of April, 1981, the announcement came: Bhagwan has entered a new and ultimate phase of His work. Now He will speak only through silence, the language of existence."--DhyanAntar 04:40, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
