Talk:Suspect ISBN numbers

From The Sannyas Wiki

these numbers have of course never been issued by the Russian Book Chamber which is the ISBN authority in Russia to more than one book.

see http://www.bookchamber.ru

is it possibele to search for ISBN numbers there ? that way we could find out who the number 5-7135-0046-2 was originally issued to, provided it was actually issued. --Rudra (talk) 00:39, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

searching the Global Register of Publishers shows this:

Publisher: Kniga
Country: Russian Federation
Agency Name: Russia
ISBN Prefix: 978-5-7135-
Status: ACTIVE
Address: Chelyabinsk ul. Posty`sheva, 2
Admin Contact Name: V.M. Afanasovich
Admin Phone: 7-(351) 264-98-48
Admin Fax: 7-(351) 264-98-48

so any other publisher using that prefix is suspect.--Rudra (talk) 00:39, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

searching the Kniga catalog shows that the ISBN number 5-7135-0046-2 is for Сборник буддийских молитв на каждый день--Rudra (talk) 02:03, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

hmmm, looks like Nirvana is only involved in one of the suspect ISBNs (5-7135-0046-9)

Nirvana's details in the Global Registry are:

Publisher: Soldatov Aleksandr Valentinovich
Country: Russian Federation
Agency Name: Russia
ISBN Prefix: 978-5-94726
Status: ACTIVE
Address: Moscow ul. Ae`rodromnaya, d. 12, korp. 1, kv. 16
Admin Contact Name: A.V. Soldatov
Admin Phone: 7-(495) 492-57-92
Admin Email: osho@inbox.ru.

i did send Prayas an email to this address, but had no response.

i am starting to suspect that the problem we see is two fold:

  • some publishers are using fake numbers for god knows what insane reason
  • and the ISBN numbers we see in online shops are there due to some serious database corruptions in the shop catalogs

--Rudra (talk) 02:03, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

forgot to mention - let's just list Osho books with suspect numbers here. there might be thousands of fake ISBNs in the Russian book scene, but we don't have to deal with them all. ;) --Rudra (talk) 16:17, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

Hurray! :-)

Do you suggest this page to use for reference and do not search specifically the root of the ISBN (like "5-7135-0046-")? I have to finish the search "5-7135-0046-" --DhyanAntar 16:37, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

sorry, i don't understand the question. what i'm trying to say is, lets list Osho books here when they are involved with a suspect number. --Rudra (talk) 02:27, 15 February 2017 (UTC)

I want to ask we will not search specifically ISBN numbers in them that start with "5-7135-0046-" (for, example)? We will list any suspect ISBN numbers only inthe case when they identified themselves, won't we?--DhyanAntar 07:01, 15 February 2017 (UTC)

ah yes, on this page we will collect all suspect numbers from any language.--Rudra (talk) 15 February 2017 (UTC)

change of plan: it looks like we only have Russian books with fake numbers (so far). so i moved the whole page over to Russian publications. --Rudra (talk) 06:25, 31 March 2017 (UTC)

Questions:

1. Rudra, I have another asking :-) about editing in Febr. 20th by yourself. You removed ISBN 5-9550-0285-5 at all. I found some information that it is in the both books - O detjah (О детях) and Ричард Бах, Хроники Хорьков. Хорек-писатель в поисках музы, София, 2003:

1) http://search.rsl.ru/ru/search#q=isbn%3A5-9550-0285-5;
2) NLR - [1];
3) http://rbip.bookchamber.ru/SearchPublications.aspx.

2. Rudra, you said:

"searching the Kniga catalog shows that the ISBN number 5-7135-0046-2 is for Сборник буддийских молитв на каждый день--Rudra (talk) 02:03, 14 February 2017 (UTC)"

I couldn't find this information. My search isn't good like yours ones! Please, tell us links for 5-7135-0046-2 is for "Сборник буддийских молитв на каждый день". Are you sure that this book exist at all? The 2001 edition published by Nirvana - ISBN 5-7135-0046-5.

In 1994 publisher Kniga published at least two books (see 5-7135-0046-2).

--DhyanAntar 06:17, 29 March 2017 (UTC)

on this page we list only Russian books with fake numbers.

also, we only list ***BOOKS*** that have fake numbers. we do NOT care about websites at all. if they print fake numbers on their website, stop using the website.--Rudra (talk) 06:46, 31 March 2017 (UTC)

"if they print fake numbers on their website, stop using the website."

You says right. I agree with you. I can list some this sites. And, of course, I don't believe them.

we must to specify the checked data.

About second book ("Сборник буддийских молитв на каждый день") - I opened this book (in pdf) and know that ISBN of it is correct 5-7135-0046-5. Other ISBN 5-7135-0046-2 has on [2] and there are no other sources of this ISBN number. It is fake. For "Сборник буддийских молитв на каждый день" ISBN number is only 5-7135-0046-5. And if you don't mind I will correct it?

re q.1:

I just realized that ISBN 5-9550-0285-5 is right (correct). This question is closed.--DhyanAntar 13:16, 31 March 2017 (UTC)

is Nirvana/Soldatov/TriL/Prayas the only publisher (of Osho books) that uses fake/invalid/stolen ISBNs ?? --Rudra (talk) 17:46, 3 April 2017 (UTC)

According to our research, as is evident from table "Suspects" until it is. I can't speak loudly, that only this publisher is using invalid and fake ISBN numbers. You didn't mention "Kniga", which has published books on behalf of Nirvana. I noticed that until about 2004 Nirvana used a fake number.

Look,

  • Soldatov - legal name of the publisher Nirvana (sometimes Colophon states on Soldatov, sometimes - Nirvana; but very often on the back of the book is written in the book of Nirvana);
  • Kniga - published books on behalf of Nirvana.
  • Tri L - other legal name a publisher (of Nirvana?)

"Olimp" and "Jekstruzit (Экструзит)" also exists in the table, what attitude to Nirvana, I was not clear.

Veet Prayas is the person, on which the entire knot of Nirvana tied, as I see it now--DhyanAntar 04:01, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
