1969 edition?

The image for the book cover concerning the 1969 edition seems to be absent. Swamisitar (talk) 03:12, 2 November 2015 (UTC)

This is not uncommon, there is no cover illustration available. Also happens when there is only "rumours" of an edition having existed. In this case there seems to be more, as details of pages and edition notes have been filled out. But the "copyright 1979" that is stated in the 1979 edition suggests that was the first one. --Sugit (talk) 07:27, 2 November 2015 (UTC)

Are you suggesting that there might not actually be a 1969 edition? Swamisitar (talk) 04:50, 3 November 2015 (UTC)

"Also happens when there is only 'rumours'" was a general remark: there have been quit some cases like that. But in this case there seems to be more evidence that there actually was a 1969 edition, notably the mention of details like page numbers and the entry in the OshoSourceBook, which is usually relyable. Still, one always has to be wary of seemingly independent sources that are in fact referring to just one erroneous source.

In this case, to me there are some suspect circumstances. The copyright year that is mentioned in the 1979 edition is strange, because usually such copyright notice mentions the very first publication year. The number of pages of the 1969 edition would be the exact same number as that of the 1979 edition, from a different publisher and no doubt a different lay-out. Anyway, not sure, just wary. --Sugit (talk) 07:05, 3 November 2015 (UTC)

I guess the following question from this exchange is: has anyone seen the 1969 version? does anyone have a 1969 version? are there any pictures anywhere of its cover? does anyone know who might be contacted to find out if they have this version? This whole thing has me intrigued. Swamisitar (talk) 17:27, 7 November 2015 (UTC)

Indeed.

An important source to cross check is the Osho Source Book. For this book, it lists that 1969 edition. But then, Neeten sometimes gets his info from this wiki...

What Rudra and Sarlo have done in the past is extensively search the internet, Google books etc. More recently, Sarlo has extended his searches to include Hindi books, which results in much much more questionmarks than we have with the English editions. Lots of work to do. Do you maybe know someone speaking Hindi and would be willing to help? That's a big wish for all of us.

By the way, nice to meet Swami Sitar, great you are here. --Sugit (talk) 19:36, 7 November 2015 (UTC)

Thank you dear friend, it's nice to meet you too. I'm willing to put up money to pay someone who is fluent in Hindi and English, if there is ever translation work needed. I would like for us to make sure everything Osho ever produced in Hindi gets translated professionally (accurately) into English. Maybe this website could be a storage place for those translations. Existence of 1969 edition is under BIG question mark and on my opinion it is error:

OshoSourceBook Vol 3:

From 1969 section: "The Beginning of the Beginning. Translated from Hindi: Satya Ki Khoj. Edited by Ma Prem Parimal. Bombay, Jeevan Jagriti Kendra, 1969. 2nd edition: Bell Books, Delhi, 1979. 113 pages. PB. Introduction by Prem Parimal. Five discourses from February 25, 1969 to February 27, 1969."

From 1974 section: "The Beginning of the Beginning. Translated from Hindi Satya Ki Khoj. Edited by Ma Prem Parinal. Bombay, Jeevan Jagriti Kendra, 1969. Five discourses from February 25, 1969 to February 27, 1969. Later editions: Delhi, Bell Books, 1979; Delhi, Vikas Publishing House, 1980 & 1982. 113 pages. UB."

Info on first English edition published by JJK in 1969 cannot be true. First Hindi edition published ~ 1970 not by JJK. JJK published 'Satya Ki Khoj only in May 1971. Secondly, Neeten stated that second Eng edition published by Bell in 1979, but it IS first English edition. Talks were in Hindi in Febrary of 1969 and it is impossible to be translated and published in the same year: no published Hindi edition and as history of publishing Eng translation says translations could not been published so fast: The Earthen Lamps published after 2 years after first Hindi edition (1968) From Sex to Superconsciousness published after 2 years after talks and first Hindi edition (1971) Flowers of Love published after 4 years after firt edition and writing of letters (1974) Dimensions Beyond the Known published after 4 years after talks and first Hindi edition (1975) Beware of Socialism 8 years after talks and first Hindi edition (1978)

If you need to more history, let me know. Do these enough? I insist on removing edition "before first edition".--DhyanAntar 17:10, 3 November 2019 (UTC)

I agree. Please look critically at my remark with the 1969 edition.--Sugit (talk) 18:59, 3 November 2019 (UTC)

Publisher info belongs to Hindi first edition, so i remove it from main page.--DhyanAntar 08:52, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Translation from Hindi into English

I noticed that the page of this book don't have any mentions about translators which translated The Beginning of the Beginning from Hindi. I can say that one of the editions translated by Сатья юи Кхой (in Russian, I cite as indicates NLR). What is unknown to me.--DhyanAntar 12:15, 22 March 2017 (UTC)

Is this a Russian name? It sounds like Satya Ki Khoj (सत्य की खोज)! So not translated by, but translation of. --Sugit (talk) 18:59, 3 November 2019 (UTC)

You solved this riddle! Wonderful! Two letters misspelled, but it is definitely name of book Sakya Ki Khoj.--DhyanAntar 04:41, 4 November 2019 (UTC)
