There are two sources which place this talk on Mar 31, 1970 in Jabalpur, the CD-ROM and Neeten's Osho Source Book. That they are approaching it from different angles and not connecting Vidroh with Rebellion makes them reasonably independent and the data therefore fairly solid imo.

And it's a bit tenuous at this point but Vidroh may have been added as a chapter in Yuvak Aur Yaun (युवक और यौन). At least there is a chapter in expanded versions of Yuvak with this as its title. And since another early pamphlet, Yuvak Kaun? (युवक कौन?) has also met this treatment, as have the four chapters of Nari Aur Kranti (नारी और क्रान्ति), it may not be much of a stretch. -- updated doofus-9 (talk) 19:27, 15 December 2014 (PST)

In my version of Neeten's Osho Source Book, he mentions of this title:

Hindi, 1968: Vidroh Kya Hai (The Hippie Rebellion). 1968/69.
Hindi, 1970: Vidroh Kya Hai? 31.03.1970

he also has two mentions of What Is Rebellion?:

Lectures and Discourses 1964-1974: Pre-1970: What is Rebellion? *H 1 31.03.69 Jabalpur
Lectures and Discourses 1964-1974: 1970: What is Rebellion? W H 1 31.03.1970pm Jabalpur (in which "W" means the source is this Wiki)

So in fact from Neeten 1969 seems a viable option.

Further, the List of Early Books says

What is Rebellion?--31/3/69 Hindi, Unpublished, only one discourse (in Jabalpur)

June 2017 update:

Couple things: Since the first mention above of Vidroh turning up as a possible chapter in Yuvak Aur Yon, the trend has been to see that small books in general and single-chapter booklets in particular are indeed collected along with other material in compilation books (which are not necessarily labelled as such). So it is not just possible but likely that Vidroh did end up there, especially as Yuvak was also incorporating other booklets and then was gathered itself into a larger collection, Sambhog Se Samadhi Ki Or (संभोग से समाधि की ओर).

The main event is the date of this single talk. Since Shailendra has supplied the scanned images of the 1972 cover and the '72 and '73 pub info pages, we have more info from decent though not infallible sources. On the second page of each of the pub info pages we have at the bottom, underneath the title, an inspired way to acknowledge both sides in this argument between 1969 and 1970: "One discourse on 'The Hippie Rebellion' given by Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh at Jabalpur University on 21 March, 1960". 1960! One digit from 1970 and one from 1969, splits the difference in an amazingly creative way. And throws in a new date, Mar 21 instead of 31.

How likely is this date to be factually true? Yes, Osho was lecturing at JU in those days but one of the big drawbacks is that the term "hippie" had not yet been coined then, it came in the early-mid 60's. Yes, it could have been retro-fitted to this hypothetical date in 1960 but really the whole thing is a stretch, despite its supposed authenticity of sourcehoodshipness by being on this book (and not corrected in the 1973 edition).

So in the end, it doesn't really settle this dispute between 1969 and 1970. One more factor to consider that might help is the general Timeline. What else was happening in those two years at the end of March? What has long been problematic for Mar 31, 1970 has been the presence of another talk the next day in Mumbai. And the talk in Jabalpur (not close!) is in the evening. Travel time, while not prohibitive, could create some difficulties.

And what was happening in 1969? As it turns out, plenty, too much really for Osho to have been anywhere near Jabalpur on Mar 31. He was involved in a conference in Patna where he created an uproar by criticizing the Shankaracharya of Puri. So unless the dates are wrong on that conference -- and they are reported by Ageh Bharti, who was there himself with Osho -- that seems to be that. -- doofus-9 00:14, 1 July 2017 (UTC)
