This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Anthony Martin. It is "Exhibit A-867" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

Anthony Martin,

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

I am a specialist in the performance of seventeenth and eighteenth century music on original instruments. I play with many ensembles, including the following: Smithsonian Chamber Players (Washington, D.C.); Philharmonia: Baroque Orchestra of the West (Berkeley, California); Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century (Amsterdam, Holland), Frans Brueggen, conductor; Aston Magna (New York City). I am also on the faculty of Longy School of Music, Cambridge, Massachusetts.

I am acquainted with Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh mainly through his writings. I find his insights into human nature to be very illuminating. Extraordinary, in fact. He speaks on such a broad spectrum of issues and human concerns, that there isn’t a person alive who couldn't be benefited by his wisdom. His teachings have proven helpful to me in my profession as well as in my personal life.

I am also acquainted with Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh through a college friend of mine who has been a Rajneeshee for almost six years. The light-heartedness and joy that has come into her life as a result of her connection to Bhagwan is testimony to the greatness of this man.

America should not miss this chance to play host to such an outstanding spiritual teacher.

Sincerely yours,
[signed]
Anthony Martin
