This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Barry L. Hope BDS. It is "Exhibit A-1187" in the Noles collection.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

I write as an experienced dental surgeon, having qualified at the University of Witwaterand, Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1967. Since then, I have practised dentistry in Israel and established my own practice in England, following a lecturship in Oral Pathology in South Africa.

I should like to take the opportunity of making a few observations concerning the Indian teacher, Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh.

His dissertations on how to treat, holistically rather than palliatively, any medical problem that a person may develop have been of immense important to our healing professions. As a dentist concerned with diseases of the mouth and teeth, his advice is always relevant.

I also find his techniques of meditation to be valu able in helping me to stay calm and relaxed while pursuing a stressful occupation, working all day with tense and apprehensive patients.

His breadth of vision and insight into humanity are an immensely valuable gift to the world and any country in which he is resident must be conside particularly fortunate. I hope he will continue to be allowed to work in the direction in which he is going, and will continue to give the healing professions inspiration on these and other relevant issues.

Yours faithfully,

Barry L. Hope, B.D.S.
