This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Caroline C. Vincent. It is "Exhibit A-314" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

Caroline C. Vincent
Attorney at Law and Mediator
July 19, 1983

To Whom It May Concern:

I am an attorney licensed to practice law in the State of California and have been practicing in the real estate and business areas for close to five (5) years. I am also serving as a private mediator of business and real estate disputes. I graduated from the University of Southern California Law Center where I received my J.D. and was at the top of my class. In my first two years of practice I was an associate with the Los Angeles offices of two major multinational law firms, representing sophisticated financial institutions and business concerns. I am now a solo practitioner.

I am a member of Women in Business, a Los Angeles professional and executive women’s organization, the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce, the Los Angeles World Affairs Council and several professional bar associations. I also serve as a Task Force member of an organization being formed to be known as the California Associaiton for Mediation. My biography is included in the 1983 edition of "Who’s Who of American Women."

I have known of Bhagwan Shree Rashneesh for several years through his writings, through close associations with his followers or "Sannyasins” and through attendance at several programs sponsored by his affiliates. These writings, associations and programs all involved spiritual and religious teachings and practices. For several years I have been interested in and investigated many of the major spiritual and religious traditions and leaders. Bhagwan has influenced my life in a meaningful way. I consider him one of the major religious figures on the planet at this time.

I wish to add that those of my friends who are interested in spiritual and religious growth, whether they agree or disagree, like or dislike, Bhagwan, all acknowledge him as one of the great religious leaders and teachers of our time. He has touched my heart and I know he has touched the heart of many others.

If I can provide any further information, please let me know.

Very truly yours,
[signed]
