This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Charles Williamson. It is "Exhibit A-610" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

To Whom It May Concern

My name is Charles Williamson. I am recognized as the top Black Male Model in the country, and I am also recognized internationally in my field, appearing in such publications as Vogue (American and Italian), Bazaar, Gentleman’s Quarterly (G.Q.), Ebony, Essence, Esquire, Playboy, Playboy fashion guide, fashion of the Tiroes (N.Y. Tiroes), Washington Post, etc. I am represented by John Casablanca’s Elite Modeling Agency in New York. I came in contact with Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh through his religious books and tapes and was elated to find out that such a being existed.

The field that has been my life for the past twelve years is an extremely superficial and material one and leaves one feeling lop-sided and bewildered. Yes this is nice and still there’s still something missing. Finding Bhagwan was for me finding the missing link. Bhagwan introduced me to the whole of life, the material and the spiritual supporting that both are necessities and both need to be fulfilled. My feeling is that he can inspire and help many more people in my field and any other, in this country and all around the world. Already he has reached many and given the chance, since this country is still the idol of the world, we all can learn from his unique Wisdom.

Sincerely,
[signed]
Charles Williamson
