This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Claus Nüscheler. It is "Exhibit A-307" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

My assessment of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh

Through one of my sons and my wife I have been in contact with the philosophy of Bhagwan for nearly 10 years. I have studied his books, listened to his tapes, visited India and Rajeneesh Puram in Oregon USA.

Although I am not a follower of Bhagwan I believe that his teaching is of immense value for today's world population. I have seen the results of his philosophy and its application. It gives people the selfreliance they need so badly in today's world. They learn to live in a community where the common goals are overriding selfish ambitions. It relieves people from frustrations, increases self-knowledge and thereby spreads understanding and happyness.

It rejects the use of drugs and uses meditation and many-fold trainings to achieve an improvement of the individual and his relations to his fellow-man.

Call it a religion, a philosophy, a belief. It is certainly a way of living which should be supported and aided and it is exclusively based on the personality, the strength, the kindness and love of Bhagwan their leader
