This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Drs. M. Leenstra. It is "Exhibit A-1282" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

12th of July 1983.
Drs. M. Leenstra.
Associate professor of applied psychology.
State University of Groningen Holland.
Faculty of Social Sciences , Leeuwarden.

To whom it may concern,

As a dutch social scientist I would like to state the following:

I am a professional social psychologist , teaching and researching at the State University of Groningen.

Several articles of mine about social work practice and on human welfare have appeared in dutch books and scientific journals , particularly "Tijdschrift voor Agologie".

I have come to know about Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh through his books.

His writings I consider of immense importance for the field of humanistic and transpersonal psychology.

His contributions to the psychology of consciousness and the functioning of the human mind are pioneering. Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh is often quoted in american psychological journals like the Journal of humanistic psychology and the Journal of transpersonal psychology, and by academic psychologists who are wellknown like R.N. Walsh , W.C. Schutz and F.E.Vaughan.

Colleagues used to prescribe Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh's books for study in their courses , like Prof. dr. J.Snijders in a course on the theory of human wellbeing.

His work indeed can be epochmaking for psychology.

Yours faithfully ,
[signed]
M.Leenstra.
