This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Edgar M. Miller DMD. It is "Exhibit A-360" in the Noles collection.

AFFIDAVIT

I, Edgar M. Miller, D.M.D., do hereby acknowledge and respectfully submit that:

I have been an active practitioner of dentistry from 1947 until 1978, with teaching positions at the post-graduate level from 1960 until 1975. I have raised a family of four delightful children, enjoyed more than 30 years in the practice of dentistry, been an active member of the community, the Masonic Lodge, Shrine, Elks, American Legion and the Democratic Party as a delegate to national conventions, served in the Army of the United States in both World War II and the Korean conflict, been awarded the Medical Combat Badge, the Bronze Star with Valour, the Croix de Guerre, the Korean Combat Ribbon with 3 battle stars for distinguished service with the 23rd Infantry Regiment. I am listed in Who's Who in the East, 14th Edition, 1974-75 and Who's Who in American Politics, 5th Edition, 1975-76. A biographical summary prepared in 1980 is enclosed for your convenience.

I have personally known Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh since 1976. In my opinion Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh is beyond doubt the most outstanding educator and religious teacher of this century, the most brilliant and understanding mind and spirit alive in the world to-day. His counsel and advice on preventive dentistry and nutrition is clear and absolutely accurate. It is because of his ability to see to the very center of a problem and thus determine its solution. He is far beyond the most experienced of us who have had a lifetime of practice and teaching in one or more of the medical fields. He is personally knowledgeable and fully acquainted with the latest techniques and methods. He is the most astute diagnostician I have ever known. There is no one with his total understanding alive in the world to-day.

My experience in the church in my youth as an acolyte and lay reader and later as a vestryman, Trinity Episcopal Church, provide the background to understand the new, fresh, alive meaning Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh gives to Jesus. His talks on Christ are the most illuminating since Edmund Wilson's work on the Dead Sea scrolls.

Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh is widely recognized for his outstanding ability in both science and religion. Not since Albert Einstein and Werner Von Braun has such a qualified world leader come to the United States.
