This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

I have a degree in philosophy, and my profession is fashion designing and painting - I am an artist. As an artist, it is absolutely necessaryfor me to be open to the situation and problem of humanity. This attitude of being open led me to the more spiritual aspects of life. Also my University years brought me into contact with the religion and philosophy of mankind. So I came into contact with Bhagwan.

In this respect, although I am not initiated as a follower of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, I consider his work and teaching to be very valuable, in that he does not destroy the real creativity that lies in each human being, which unfortunately most religions do. In fact he tries his best to encourage the human being to trust in life, and therefore develop a more positive attitude towards life. His teaching offers a more clearer consciousness, and a more healthier attitude in general. His teaching is also against all forms of dogma - to be aware of one's own life and life in general - to be an individual.

In our one-dimensional society we should consider it absolutely essential to protect such a great and open-minded human being as Bhagwan Ahree Rajneesh for our future. Because he is one of the real chances for human beings to change their present negative attitudes.

As a responsible human being, I ask you to allow this man to stay in America.
