This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Gayle J. Early. It is "Exhibit A-487" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

To Whom It May Concern:

I am a registered nurse with a Bachelor of Science degree from Cal. State Univ. Long Beach. While obtaining that degree I completed 4 months of concentrated study in critical cere nursing. I have specialized in the field of critical care for 7 years. My training has included a thorough internship in critical care at St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach, Ca. Among other graduate studies I have taken in depth courses for certification as a Critical Care R.N. and in Advanced Cardiac Life Support. I have been a member of the American Association of Critical care Nurses.

Presently I am employed by the Women’s Hospital of Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. In the past I have worked in a variety of nursing capacities, including public health. My expertise remains in the critical care area.

As an expert in critical care nursing I have a statement to make about Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh.

My initial exposure to Bhagwan came through reading books of his discourses. I have since visited his meditation center in Laguna Beach several times. I have found his teachings to be extremely valuable on both a personal and professional level.

Nursing involves treating the patient spiritually as well as physically, and here Bhagwan serves as a guide. The compassion of this man can only enhance the compassion of a nurse caring for the ill. From Bhagwan, a nurse can learn to be more sensitive to the patients needs; can be more effective in dealing with the dying patient, their ultimate death, and the grief of the family. This is particularly important in critical care where death is common. The nurse is also better equipped to cope with his or her own work related stress thanks to the presence of Bhagwan. These are just a few examples of Rajneesh’s contributions to the healing arts.

It is my feeling nursing in the U.S., and across the world, can benefit from the work of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh.

Sincerely,
[signed]
