To whom it may concern

State Seminary of Berne
Elected teacher for Paedogogics and Psychology
Bern, the 18th July, 1983

To whom it may concern:

As a member of the teachers’ board of the Bernese Teachers Training Institute, it is important for me that such a good author as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, who is so meaningful for our future teachers, may work in freedom, since the youth of Berne, as well as us responsible, have experienced great help through him.

Among the teachers of our institute, there are several who know Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh and who got much inspiration for their teaching from his books. All of us would be utterly dismayed if he had to leave from a country of freedom again.

My personal task here at our institute is to teach paedagogics and psychology. It has become extraordinarily difficult nowadays to find ways to show the young teachers how to be able to give courage to the youth for a positive life and how to help them to abandon paths of despair full of drugs, resignation and meaninglessness. Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh has helped me a lot in diagnosing the spiritual situation of the present time.

I was born in 1935 and studied at the University of Berne from 1959 till 1961 and from 1970 till 1973. At present I am writing my thesis (Ph.D.). I heard about Bhagwan from my fellow teachers, and my regret is that it was only four years ago and not before I was 44. Since that time I have been reading a lot from his books, I have been listening to his tapes and attended several groups of his disciples.

This whole training is of great importance for me and offers me an ideal complement to what I have learned elsewhere during my studies. Through Bhagwan I mainly realized how important the connection of a healthy body with a healthy mind is. From this point I tried to find better and more honest relationships to other people. I experienced how I do many things in my life thoughtlessly, thus damaging myself. I am now more able to enjoy my life, my food, sports and being together with people. I realized that this beginning transformation has made my task more easy.

Bhagwan has also improved my understanding of the sayings of Jesus Christ very much. I am glad to be able to better understand and live Christianity. But I have also learned that there is so much fundamental truth in the old Indian wisdom that is useful for Western psychology. And I am glad to know how to use these sources for teaching.

Unfortunately, there are many bad youth sects in Switzerland, too, which give only dependency and inner insecurity to seeking young people. They exploit this insecurity by taking the money of the young ones and don't give them any help. That is why there are so many prejudices against Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, too. But in Bhagwan's books as well as in the groups I experience exactly the contrary of such misuse: young people becoming independent, standing on their own feet, without any obligations towards Rajneesh Foundation whatsoever which might limit their freedom, neither in an inward nor in an outward meaning of the word. On the contrary, they learn to live a positive life and to reflect on the essential, e.g. by meditation.

I am convinced, and I share this conviction with many other Swiss academic people, that Bhagwan's effect for the West gives rise only to the good and can offer us the help which we urgently need.

I hope you will read my letter, and if you need further information, I should be glad to offer it. I am looking forward to getting an answer which may be written in English.

Yours truly,
