This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Drs Hein Auke Ate Kray. It is "Exhibit A-1237" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has 2 pages.

onderwerp : BHAGWAN SHREE RAJNEESH

The person who is writing this statement graduated in PSYCHOLOGY in 1974 at the Free University of Amsterdam. He has done research in the realms of attention, thinking and consciousness during his affiliation with the vakgroep THEORETISCHE PSYCHOLOGIE at the Free University. Presently he's heading the psychology library of the UBVU, Amsterdam.

In 1978 he came in contact with some disciples of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh and started studying the phenomenon of awareness by reading - many books about it (theory) and doing some of Rajneesh' meditations (practice). This approach evolved gradually into an intense search that eventually lead to the source of the neo-sannyas movement: Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh in Poona. By the end of april 1979 he became an initiate (or sannyassin) and with good advice from his new spiritual guide and help from his fellow-travellers he continued working on himself.

By now it is perfectly clear to him that Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh is doing a lot of things that are urgently needed: he’s bringing a synthesis of science and religion, he devised specific methods of meditation for the overburdened modern man, he's creating an example of how people could live together in a happy, creative and highly productive way by guiding a web of communes all over the world and he has given in his many books and lectures an outline of a new transpersonal psychology, ’the third psychology’ as he calls it. His work should be wholeheartedly supported, where- and whenever possible.
