This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Jan Marshall. It is "Exhibit A-1195" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

To whom it may concern,

I am a Social Worker with four years varied practical experience. I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the Australian National University (1975), and a Bachelor of Social Administration Degree from Flinders University, South Australia (1978). I have worked for three different State and Federal Government Welfare Departments in a wide range of general Welfare and Supervisory positions. I am currently tutoring in the Social Work area at the South Australian Institute of Technology.

My first contact with Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh occured about eighteen months ago through my mother who had become a Sannyasin. Since this time Bhagwan’s insights in to the psychological and spiritual nature of people’s problems has helped me tremendously in making my work with people and their problems more effective. My work now includes a spiritual component that was absent previously, and is thus more holistic in its approach.

My own contact and participation in Bhagwan’s meditations has also enabled me to both survive and be more productive in an area of work that is renowned for worker ’burn-out’. Without my contact with Bhagwan I would not currently still be working in this profession, despite many years of training and preparation for it.

Both personally and professionally I can attest to the exceptional ability of Bhagwan’s teachings and religious guidance.

Yours sincerely

Jan Marshall
