This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Johannes Leendert Mol. It is "Exhibit A-1055" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has 2 pages.

This "letter" has an unusual format, in that it is wholly something presented by a notary public in Holland. It is his account of the statement of Johannes Leendert Mol. The statement of the notary "contains", seamlessly, Mol's statement. The signature(s) at the end are cut off by the photocopying process, but the notary asserts that both have signed, and accompanies it with several stamps as well. There is no reason to doubt its authenticity.

On this day, the nineteenth of July nineteenhundred and eigthy three, appeared before me, Johannes Karstens, notary public, practising at Leiden: mister Johannes Leendert Mol, born at Rotterdam on March twenty nineteenhundred and fourty six, Head of the application development department of the Bazis-foundation living at Leiden, de Mey van Streefkerkstraat 34.

The appeared person declared:

I am Johannes Leendert Mol, (callname Hans), born on March twenty nineteenhundred and fourty six at Rotterdam, The Netherlands;

my sex: male;

my education: Gymnasium B (nineteenhundred and sixty four) Bachelors degree Mathematics and Physics (nineteenhundred and sixty seven) at Leiden University,
Masters degree Applied Mathematics (nineteenhundred and seventy two) at Leiden University.

my work: Since nineteenhundred and sixty nine I have been working on the development of the NOBIN-ZIS-project, a Total Hospital Information System, which is at present operational in about eighteen Dutch hospitals.

I have worked as computer-programmer, systems-analyst, systems-designer and project-leader.

At the moment I am head of the application-development department of the BAZIS-foundation. This department consist of about fifty five people.

Marital status: married since nineteenhundred and seventy, father of two daughters (four and seven years old).

Since about nineteenhundred and seventy four I took a deep interest in psychology and metaphysics and I have read a lot of books on these subjects, from very different sources.

When a known Dutch psychiatrist (Jan Foudraine) became a sannyasin of Bhagwan, I wondered what him made to do it. I started to read books of Bhagwan, and I think I understood Jan Foudraine.

Although I am not a sannyasin of Bhagwan, and I am not planning to become one, I am deeply convinced that Bhagwan is an exceptional human being, and that he has a lot of positive influence on a lot of people in the Dutch society.

I can see that in Holland in the circles of the so-called "intelligentsia", I can see that in the circles of my friends, and I can see that in my wife an myself.

The appearer is known to me, notary public.

This deed was executed in a single copy at Leiden, on the day stated in the preamble of these presents.

After a statement of the essential contents of this deed to the person who appeared before me, he declared that he has taken notice of this deed and that he does not desire a complete reading of it. Immediately after that and after a restricted reading of it, this deed was signed by the appearer and me, notary public.

J.L. Mol, J.Karstens.
