Lake Tahoe
18 July 1983
JOHN D. ADAMS

To whom it may concern:

I am an academic vacationing from Massachusetts i at Lake Tahoe, and wish to express my feelings concerning the Indian philospher, Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh.

Firstly, I am a 12th generation American imbued with the New England principles of fair play and recognition of exceptional people who wish residence in our country.

For the past twenty years I have had a notable career in American publishing, and have achieved a reasonable prominence. As always, I am devoted to the dictum of enhancing the quality and substance of life in my native land. Rajneesh’s very special contribution to our Culture is in the form of melding the spirit of the East with the energies of the Western World. His writings portray this , and have been of incredible value to Americans everywhere. If Rajneesh is refused entry into this country on a permanent basis, I certainly will be in the vanguard of citizens protesting the treatment. Though this letter is brief, I do plan to bring the Rajneesh immigration matter to the personal attention of Senator Kennedy (Mass) and Senator Leahy (VT) immediately upon my return to Bos ton. Rajneesh’s stature as an exceptional contributor to the culture and humanity of our land earns him the privilege of Welcome.

Sincerely,
[signed]
