This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Leo Berlips. It is "Exhibit A-505" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

To all whom it may concern

My name is Leo Berlips and I am working as a chief-psychologist for the ”Institutet for Psykoterapi and Psychodrama” in Göteborg, Sweden. I am a certified psychologist, which corresponds to having a university degree in psychology.

I was asked by a representant of the Rajneesh center in Sweden to give my opinion about Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh which I gladly do. The reason for this is that although I never have had a direct contact with him I use several of his methods which he worked out in the field of psychotherapy, especially his: "dynamic meditation excercises". I use these methods since about 8 years with great advantage as exceptional effective preparation methods for intensive psychotherapy in groups. In addition I know many patients who became improved by using his methods at home, instead of using psychopharmaca, in order to arrive at a state of peace of mind.

I consider Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh as one of the leading bridgebuilders between classical eastern approaches to psychotherapy and modem western techniques. During my training courses in Holland, Belgium, Germany and Switserland I met many professionals who had the same positive opinion and who considered Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh as a foreground figure in their speciality.

I therefore officialy declare herewith that I consider Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh as a person of exceptional ability in the field of developing modem psychotherapy and by this to thank him for his great contributions in my field.
