This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Lothar Reschke. It is "Exhibit A-912" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has 2 pages.

To whom it may concern.

I am living and working as a computer scientist in Germany. My study at the University of Bonn ended with a diploma in informatics and logic. After this I worked as a systems analysist in several computer companies in the area of microprosessor development, real time processing and video systems software. Now I am 30 years old.

During my study I did research in the field of the foundations of sciences, which led me to the origin of modern axiomatic mathematics and the history of natural sciences. I studied philosophers like Bertrand Russell, Ludwig Wittgenstein as well as authorities of the modern cybernetics (Wiener, Shannon, Chomsky) to find out the basic ideas about information, verification, data and language.

The simple conclusion of this work was the realisation that there was a fundamental subject-object-dichotomy in western science which left the field of the research of inner psychic evidence - that is, where and under which conditions informations are verified and data processed - to psychology and medicine. For me this was a view too limited and I found out that a tradition of some thousand years in the east has established a much more sophisticated way of description and explanation - only to mention tibetan buddhism and zen in Japan. A fusion between both sides has to happen and it will happen in this age already.

This is why Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh is of such outstanding importance. He is an expert in the tradition of western science and culture as well as in the ancient eastern knowledge. His teaching shows a unique way to transcend the boundaries of western thinking and yet purify it by attaining more clearness through meditation. Thoughts can be produced more consciously. A scientist for example, who performs Bhagwans meditations and lives in a meditative and harmonious way, is able to think sharp, calm, creative. In my personal work I have attained a better quality of concent and organisation and improved my team work, since I began to meditate and to read Bhagwans books. Body exercises and bioenergetic body work have led me to a constant state of muscle relaxation and inner freedom.

Caused by the work of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh a new communication between eastern and western thoughts is going to happen and practical results will be witnessing this. The scientist of the future will have to be meditative.
