This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Ma Gyan Arpan (Patricia Austin). It is "Exhibit A-900" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

I am writing in favour of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh remaining permanently in the United States of America.

My name is Patricia Austin and I am also known as Ma Gyan Arpan.

I am 39 years old and hold an Honours Degree majoring in Psychology (B.A. Hons) and a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology (M. Psych. Clin.) from the University of Western Australia.

I am the author of two research theses, one of which was published for the Geigy Symposium 1980. I have trained as a Gestalt Therapist and worked for the government as a Clinical Psychologist treating children and families.

Since 1979 the work of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh has been a constant source of inspiration to me both personally and professionally.

In the area of psychology and psychotherapy Bhagwan’s guidance and illumination has brought together some of the most skilled psychologists, psychiatrists and therapists in the world at the, Rajneesh International Meditation University in Rajneeshpuram, Oregon.

Healing, therapy and spiritual guidance is transforming many individuals who participate in the programmes in Rajneeshpuram. The work carried out there provides a reference source for those like myself working as a psychologist in Sahajam Rajneesh Sannyas Ashram in Perth. Without the presence of Bhagwan in Oregon this University would not function.

As a therapist and sannyasin I would like to add my voice to the many who support Bhagwan's residency in the United States of America.

Yours sincerely
[signed]
PATRICIA AUSTIN
