This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Ma Prem Karuna. It is "Exhibit A-824" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

I am a german certified and lisenced laboratory and radiologic technologist and I am lisensed as radiologic technologist in Oregon, U.S.A. I have been working in the health field for the past twelve years both in hospital and research laboratories.

I first came in contact with Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh in 1975. His discourses relating to health greatly influenced my understanding of the relationship between body and mind and the "psychology of sickness". This great religious teacher whose teachings are recognised all over the world, has established himself also as an outstanding personality in the world of science: he's probably the greatest psychologist living. Traditional health care training encourages the separateness between patient and doctor/nurse, and after experiencing this cold impersonal attitude in hospitals, I felt that this was not the right approach to get people healthy and whole again.

Through Bhagwan's teachings I've come to experience a totally new approach to health care which encompasses the whole body, mind and soul as a unit and caring and treating it with love instead of treating it like a defective machine.

Bhagwan has mentioned in his discourses that the West has specialised too much in sciences whereas the East got stuck with only religion and that a synthesis has to happen.

Here at Rajneeshpuram I've seen this come true. Through His presence here a totally new wholesome loving approach to the body and understanding of its function is happening.

Other interesting medical facts are just starting to emerge here, such as the absence of almost all "modern civilisation diseases" such as high blood pressure, Appendicities or gall bladder disease.

For me there is no question that a synthesis of science and meditation has to happen, just looking at what already has been possible through His spiritual influence in this commune and that His understanding of man holds the key to eliminate many of the modern diseases.
