This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Ma Puja Nartana (Annemarie Becker). It is "Exhibit A-280" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

To Whom It May Concern

My name is Annemarie Becker, my Sannyas name is Ma Puja Nartana. I am 27 years of age and a trained and qualified medical technical assistant. I came to Bhagwan by reading his books and took Sannyas in March 1982.

My attitude towards human beings has undergone a great change since I met Bhagwan. When one works for a long time in a laboratory, patients are all reduced to mere numbers. This brings an absolute lack of feeling in one's work. For instance, my colleagues and I used to have bets with one another trying to guess who would diagnose the most cases of cancer, or whose patients would die first. It was through Bhagwan that I came to respect life. I began to see the human body as a temple of God. Since I have been touched by Bhagwan's love, I see every living being as an expression of God's love. And as a result I have learned to respect every individual. This new awareness has made me see my own work in a new light: I now see my work as my contribution towards helping people to become healthy and not just as a routine job.

Bhagwan's vision of a human being as someone who is completely responsible for himself has become a spiritual background to my daily work and has changed the whole colour of my life.
