This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Masaaki Monju. It is "Exhibit A-53" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box will link to a pdf file of the original letter when the pdf is created. It has one page.

Mr Masaaki Monju
Temple Master of Jitokuin
2250 Akeshi Kaya-cho
Yoza-gun, Kyoto
Japan.
July 14th, 1983.

To Whom it Mat Concern,

I have known of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh for many years. I discovered His existence through His lecture books that have been translated into Japanese. Advanced nations such as America and Japan have developed in the sphere’s of economy and materialism. This is the time when all desires can be fulfilled by money, so people have created more desires and become like animals. Juvenile delinquency has become a daily occurance. Education does not function any more.

In these days the existence of a person such as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, helps young people who have lost their way. He is teaching them that it is important to change their direction from outside to the inside. He is ringing an alarm that politicians are destroying. He has started moving against the current of this time. From all over the world people are coming together, coming to Him. There must be something which is attracting these people so strongly to His teachings. He says to use things and to make harmony with different philosophies, to look deeply into oneself through meditation.

In my temple for the inner growth of oneself we practice the Zen method through His teachings. I like to watch Him as one who has looked into the confused world and said what is needed. I wish understanding from whom ever it concerns so that Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh can stay in the United States of America.

Mr Masaaki Monju.
