This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Patrick W. Dugan. It is "Exhibit A-596" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

PATRICK W. DUGAN

To Whom it may concern:

I am a practicing attorney with clients in various parts of the United States and overseas, and hold a Bachelors Degree in Psychology and a Doctorate of Jurisprudence.

I have read approximately fifty of the more than 120 volumes of the work of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh that are available in English. I have also worked extensively with the techniques of meditation and silent prayer which Bhagwan has developed. In addition, I have travelled in many parts of the world, and studied in detail major world religions, and the new developments in modern philosophical and religious thought. Based on this personal in-depth inquiry, and on my educational background in the humanistic sciences, I find that the work of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh is a unique and important contribution to world thought in the fields of Religion,. Philosophy and Psychology. It is my opinion that Bhagwan is the most innovative, and certainly the most prolific religious leader and teacher alive today.

As an attorney who represents major corporations, professionals, and other individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds in matters relating to U.S. Immigration & Nationality Law, I can state that I have never encountered a more clear case of an individual who qualifies as a person of "exceptional ability" as does Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh.

Very truly yours,
GREEN, DOWNEY, PATTERSON & SCHULTZ, P.C.
