This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Paul Guistolise MS. It is "Exhibit A-498" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

To Whom It May Concern:

This letter comes in support of the Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. As a practicing psychotherapist in the Chicago area, I have come into contact with this man through his writings and by way of several friends who know a great deal of him.

The field of Psychology is a science which is growing at a rapid rate. Theoreticians publish their ideas so frequently, and from such divergent perspectives, that it is often extremely difficult to integrate the plethora of views, perspectives and theories.

The Bhagwan consistently integrates these notions as few other men in this field. Although he does not specifically write for this field (i.e., Psychology), his writings are lucid and candid. I, and several colleagues in my acquaintance, frequently refer to his writings and views when needing clarity relative to psychotherapeutic issues.

There is no question that he is a significant contributor to the science of Psychology in this country today. We would lose a valuable commodity if he is not allowed to stay in this country.

I respectfully request that the Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh be allowed the privilege of living and working in the United States and that he be granted permanent status.

Thanking you for your attention in this regard, I remain,

Sincerely,
[signed]
Paul Guistolise, M. S.
