This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Peter Georgi. It is "Exhibit A-576" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

This shall serve as a letter of support on behalf of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh’s application for residency in the United States. I am the president of Unity Communications, a production and finance company in the field of music, television and feature films. My work spans nine years of intensive interaction with performers, actors, actresses, writers, producers, financeers, entertainment industry executives, lawyers, spiritual leaders, etc. I regard Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh as a spiritual leader in every sense of the word. I am not his devotee, nor do I follow his philosophies. I nevertheless have respect and admiration for the man, and feel his presence in the United States would be positive and contributory.

I have reviewed Rajneesh's books, heard his lectures on tape and in person, and have many friends involved in his organization. Whatever negative consideration one might have based on the past, it seems clear that a monumental effort has been made to start anew, since Rajneesh’s arrival in the United States, to build a unique, model, spirtually oriented city in Oregon of which our country can be proud. I know him and my friends to be sincere, well-motivated people, and I pray that the immigration authorities responsible grant them the simple request to remain together to carry out their vision.
