This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Reinhard Kuchenmüller. It is "Exhibit A-902" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has 2 pages.

DIPL. ING. REINHARD KUCHENMÜLLER - FREIER ARCHITEKT A.K.B.W., SRL
11.07.1983

Dear Sir,

I am one of the owners of the ’Institut für Bauplanung Stuttgart’ in Germany, where we do research in the field of human needs as preparation for building briefs, environmental and urban planning and ecology. I got my diploma from the University of Stutgart and am working in my profession since 20 years. More than half of our projects are done for the government of the Federal Republic of Germany.

I have published the results of my research, e.g.:

’Schulbau, Aufgaben und Ausgaben’ - Munich 1968
’Bildwyswesen, Bonfswesen, Bauwesen’ - Stuttgart 1967
’Gesamtschule Tübingen' - Tübingen 1970
’Neue Kooperationsformen in der Planung' - Darmstadt 1970
'Querschnittsbericht Bedorfsplanung im Bauweisen'-Stuttgart 1981

I am also a member of several, national and international organizations such as:

SRL, Vereinigung der Stadt - Regional und Landesplanung
Advisory Board of the Schulbauinstitut der Länder, Berlin
Normenausschuss Bauwesen im Deutschen Institut für Normung, Berlin, Ausschuss für DIN 18035 Sportplätze
ISO International Standard Organization, ISO TC 59 SC 3 WG 6 ’Design Briefing for Buildings’
The German Mirroring Committee for above:

First I have heard about Bhagwan seven years ago. It had nothing to do with my profession and I was very sceptical. But slowly I became convinced that he is one of the most beautiful and important human beings of our time.

When I heard and read about his vision of a new commune, in peace with nature and growing like a flower, my professional interest awoke too. And I decided to travel to Oregon last year. The impression was overwhelming, so I came back this year. My surprise was even bigger.

Rajneeshpuram is the direct outflow of Bhagwan’s love, his religious teachings and his silent presence. It is such an important experiment in the middle of our struggling and unhappy world, I think it is the most important event going on at the end of the XXth Century.

Every expert in the field of urban development and ecology should have the opportunity to come here and study the Rajneeshpuram experiment.

What you can read in many of Bhagwan's books is coming into reality now, that only men who are in harmony with themselves and with each other, who are more and more aware and conscious, are able to co-operate in a new and human way. His vision of the new man and the new society is the only alternative to self destruction of mankind.

All that determines the planning and realisation of Rajneeshpuram, on every level, from the development of the natural water system, to the types of buildings, the public transport system, the landscaping, the materials used, the recycling system and many other examples.

Sincerely,
[signed]
