This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

This letter is from Dr. Reinhard Peterwerth. It is "Exhibit A-892" in the Noles collection.

The text version below has been created by optical character recognition (OCR), from the images supplied by OHS. It has not been checked for errors but this process usually results in over 99% correct transcription. Most apparent "errors" are correct transcriptions of typos already in the original. The image on the right in the text box links to a pdf file of the original letter, it has one page.

To whom it may concern

My name is Reinhard Peterwerth. I am born in 1940. Now I am living in Munich workimg as a lawyer in my own office.

I studied laws at the universities of Freiburg/Br., Berlin, Cologne and Bonn. In 1966 I spent 6 months at the Camara de Comercio Colombo-Alemana (German-Columbian Chamber of Commerce; in Bogota/Colombia.

In 1969 I obtained a 1-year doctorate scholarship of the DAAD (German Academic Exchange service) in Bonn for Guatemala, where I elaborated a doctorate thesis about the central American Common market. This thesis was accepted by the University of Bonn (title: Das vertragswerk des Zentralame-rikanischen Gemeinsamen narktcs-The Treaties of the Central American Common market). In 1973 I obtained the title of a Doctor Juris of the university of Bonn.

My thesis was published by the "Stiftung Preusischer Kultur-besitz” (Foundation of Prussian Culture; in Berlin within the series "Bibliotheca ibero-Americana".

In august 1980 I was travelling in India for holidays.

By chance I met Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh in Poona. Instantly I was fascinated by the man. For 4 weeks I listened to the lectures of Bhagwan day by day, never missing a lecture. For me Bhagwan is one of the greatest men I ever met. He gave to me an impression of real humanity. In his lectures he taught his audience an universal love and how to make this world a peaceful place, where all nations and races can live in tolerance one to another.

Every country, where Bhagwan is staying, should be proud of the fact that one of the greatest men lives within its borders.
