This letter is one of a remarkable series of over 2650 letters amassed in 1983 to support Osho's attempt to get permanent resident status in the US at the time of the Oregon ranch. The image is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Oregon Historical Society. Information about their collection of these letters and other supporting material -- the "Jeffrey Noles Rajneesh Collection", named for Osho's immigration lawyer Jeffrey Noles, who compiled them in 1983 and donated them to the OHS -- can be found at this page. The wiki is grateful to the OHS for making access available for these documents. For more information and links to all the letters, see Testimonial letters.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

I am a certified acupuncturist in the State of California, and a member of the Traditional Acupuncture Society (U.K.), the American Acupuncture Association, the Oriental Arts Healing Institute, and the United Acupuncturists of America. I graduated with honors in Biology and Psychology at the University of California, and also with honors from the Chinese School of Acupuncture, U.K. I have led numerous courses in Chinese Medicine, acupuncture, acupressure, massage and oriental philosophy - in England, Holland, India and the United States.

I write now to express how Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh is transforming not only my professional career, but also influencing the entire field of oriental medicine. I met Bhagwan in 1976, have talked with him numerous times, and have listened to many of his discourses. He has spoken numerous times on acupuncture and his insights are literally revolutionary in the field.

Bhagwan continues to make a unique contribution to oriental medicine, which is widely recognised by many professionals concerned. In a sense, he has formed a bridge between the ancient and the modern, bringing the old techniques of acupuncture up-to-date. He has shown that just as the consciousnesses of people have changed over the last 5000 years, so must change come to the medicine that serves them.

I have been living at Rajneeshpuram since August of 1982; in this past year, I have seen acupuncture be further extended into new realms, under the inspiration of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. In recent years, acupuncture has been much hailed for its effective treatments of stress-related illnesses, e.g. ulcers, migraine headaches, allergies, cardiovascular disorders, etc. Here at Rajneeshpuram, one sees few of these types of disorders, as the predisposing stress and neurosis is simply missing! Rather, acupuncture here has concentrated in the treatment of acute traumatic injuries e.g. sprains and contusions - and for preventative means. Acupuncture excels in this type of treatment; I believe this concentration to be unique to most acupuncture clinics in the world today.

Just as important one does not see here at Rajneeshpuram the fierce competition between "allopathic" and "natural" forms of medicine that exist elsewhere. Many forms of medicine are well represented here, and all work together in harmony. Sometimes, one form of treatment is found to be ineffective, and another type is tried, e.g. if acupuncture is unsuccessful, then perhaps chiropractic can be of help. Often two or more modes of therapy are employed simultaneously. This creates a unique medical treatment program, almost unknown outside Rajneeshpuram. It is an opportunity for both medical professionals and their patients to learn and grow together - a direct result of Bhagwan's guidance.

Finally, Bhagwan shows us every day that it is love and only love - that can truly heal. One is just a vehicle - a catalyst at most. This insight alone has become a fruitful tree for growth in the field of acupuncture.

Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh continues to be a motivating and inspirational force in Oriental Medicine. Under his guidance, the creative possibilities for further expansion in this field seem to be infinite.

Sincerely yours,
